Gladys C. Naugler, 87, of Hillsview Acres, Middlefield, Queens County, formerly of Moose Harbour, Queens County, passed away peacefully in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool, Friday, January 5, 2007. Born on Little Tancook Island, she was a daughter of the late Ainsley and Celestia (Cross) Levy. She was an avid knitter, loved music and was a “people person�?. MOULAISON, Drew Jordan Paul - Age six, of Pleasant Lake, Yarmouth Co., passed away January 6, 2007, at home. Born in Yarmouth, he was the son of Gordon and Jody (Clements) Moulaison. REVEREND HUBERT EDWARD WHITE - Peacefully, at West Park Manor, in Winnipeg, Manitoba on Saturday, January 6, 2007 The Reverend Hubert Edward White, husband of Lorna, father of Barbara (Jaworski), Ian White and Jennifer (Willems). Prior to retirement, Ed had been the United Church minister at Rosedale and Kirkfield Park in Winnipeg. He had previously held pastorates in Quebec and Nova Scotia. Before entering the ministry he had a brief career as a professional engineer. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2007 at 2:00 pm at Thomson Funeral Home. Viola Dexter, 87, of Digby, NS, died Saturday, January 6, 2007, in Tideview Terrace, Digby. Born in Sandy Point, Shelburne County, she was a daughter of the late Elwell and Elsie (MacLeod) Pierce. She is survived by daughter, Betty Buchanan of Sandy Point; sons, Chester (Eunice) MacKenzie of Northwest Harbour, Shelburne Co., Russell (Eleanor) MacKenzie of Halifax; step-son, Lorin Dexter of British Columbia; step-daughter, Gloria (James) Lingley of Liverpool; five grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Gordon MacKenzie; second husband, Eugene Dexter; son, Lawrence; sister, Gladys Boudreau; brothers, Ralph and Chester in infancy. Edwin A. Wentzell, 87, of Beach Meadows, Queens County, died Saturday, January 6, 2007, at Queens General Hospital, Liverpool, with family at his side. Born in Beach Meadows, he was a son of the late William Henry and Lettie Ellen (Wolfe) Wentzell. He first started working with his father as a carpenter and together they built many homes in Brooklyn and Liverpool. He also went to work for himself, running a mink ranch, turkey farm, and a logging operation over a span of 40 years. After retiring, he spent his time fishing, lobstering, gardening and managing his woodlots until the age of 83. He was a member of the local IOOF, Emmanuel United Church, Brooklyn Marina, and Hilltop Seniors. Edwin will be fondly remembered for his kindness, his generous nature, and his willingness to help family and friends. He will be sadly missed by many. Surviving are his wife, the former Mildred Kathleen Purdy; daughters, Joanne Daniels (David) of Beach Meadows, Pauline Whynot (Andrew) of Mahone Bay; grandchildren: Matthew, Jessie, and Jared. He was predeceased by his brother, Gordon. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Mahone Funeral Home, Mahone Bay. A family graveside service will be held at a later date in Malagash, Cumberland County. Donations in his memory can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Lung Association.
INNES, James Samuel - Passed away after a lengthy battle with heart disease, surrounded by his family on January 6, 2007 at Hamilton General Hospital. Born in Montreal, Quebec, Jim was in his 66th year. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Meredith, son Jay (Lynn) of Ottawa and daughter Cheryl (Tom) of Caledonia. Special Papa to Katharine, Ashley and Celia Innes, and Aaron, Christopher and Julia Cotterill. He is survived by sister Helen Benoit (Maine) and nephews Grant, Lane, Darren, Allen and families, Aunt Nellie (California) and Uncle David (Scotland). Jim is predeceased by his parents Alexander and Mary. Jim was an avid golfer and enjoyed his time at Cayuga Golf Club. Funeral service took place at Millers Funeral Chapel, 28 Caithness Street East, Caledonia at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 (preceded by visitation at 12 noon). A family service was held in Centre Rawdon United Church, N.S. at 12 p.m. on Thursday, January 11, 2007, with interment in the church cemetery, all under the direction of Lohnes Funeral Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). She was an avid card player and she loved to dance. Ward, Edith E. (Harrington) – of Sommerville, Mass. Jan. 4, 2007. Beloved wife of the late Charles F. Ward. Born in Melbourne, Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, March 27, 1916. Daughter of the late Frank and Mary Harrington. She was the last surviving member of her family. She was predeceased by her brothers George, Melvin, Leslie and Lawrence and sisters Josephine, Louise, Linda and Margaret. She is survived by loving friend Genevieve Zarzecki of Somerville, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. CHIPMAN, Margaret Allison (Ripley) - Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. A proud and determined lady, died peacefully in her 90th year in the morning hours of January 6, 2007 in the Nakile Home for Special Care in Argyle, Nova Scotia. Born on March 23, 1917 in Truro, Nova Scotia, Margaret was the daughter of the late James Trueman Ripley and Hannah Ann (MacPherson) Ripley. Margaret grew up in Truro and moved to Yarmouth following WWII. She was a graduate of Saint Martha’s School of Nursing in Antigonish, Nova Scotia and was an operating room nurse at Yarmouth Regional Hospital for 16 years. Margaret was predeceased by husband Donald, daughter Donna, greatgrandson, Tanner and brother Donald. She is survived by her loving children Robert (Glenda) of Deerfield, Stephen (Mary) of Dartmouth, and Alison of Dartmouth. She will be sadly missed by grandchildren; Margaret Ann Bennett, Robert (Dana) Cunningham, Zachariah, Jared, Thomas, Peter, Kate and Christopher Chipman. Great grandchildren Sasha and Stephen Bennett and Carter and Bryer Cunningham. Great great grand children Isaac and McKenna. She is also survived by brother, Robert “Bob” Ripley (Edith), Valley and sister Doris Kaye, Bedford, sisters-in-law Bette Ripley, Ingleside, Ontario and Mary Laffin, Edmonton, nephews Robert Ripley and Paul Laffin, and nieces Jean Knowles and Margaret (John) MacIntyre. Margaret was a patient, loving and encouraging mother, grandmother and loyal friend. She easily balanced her responsibilities as a wife, mother, nurse, artist and active community member. She enjoyed people and had a wonderful sense of humour. She was an accomplished artist and created many works of art to share with others and freely shared her love of painting with anyone interested in learning. She will long be remembered for her warmth and hospitality and her always open door. She was a charter member of Lief Erikson chapter of IODE, founding President of the Yarmouth Branch of the Canadian Diabetes Association, member of the Yarmouth Historical Society, Visual Arts Nova Scotia, Th’Yarc, Kritosophian Club, Yarmouth Art Society and the Anglican Church Women and Altar Guild. A memorial service to celebrate Margaret’s life was held at 2 pm on Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, William Street, Yarmouth, Rev. MacAllister Ellis and Rev. Sandra Fyfe officiated. A reception followed in the church hall.
