December 24, 2006 to December 30, 2006 continued SMITH, Arlene Reid - age 80, of Ellershouse, Hants County, passed away Monday, December 25, 2006, in the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born in Windsor, on March 19, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Myrtle (Chapman) Purvis. Arlene was an adherent of the Windsor United Baptist Church. She previously worked at, and managed the Agnew–Surpass Store in Windsor. She lived her life in the same manner in which she died; contentedly. Arlene adored her grandchildren, and great–grandchildren, cherishing their phone calls and visits. She was quick to remind them if too much time had passed in between! She was active up to the onset of her illness, mowing her lawn, raking leaves and shovelling snow. Arlene enjoyed meeting her friends at McDonalds each morning for coffee, and this often involved a lively debate over news, weather and politics. She vehemently opposed Sunday shopping. Her favorite sports teams were the Toronto Blue Jays and the Toronto Maple Leafs. She will be missed, but never forgotten by her family and friends. Arlene is survived by a daughter, Maxine Steeves, Calgary, AB; sister, Helen (Cedric) Mailman, Ellershouse; son–in–law, Blaine (Ann Marie) Pemberton, Falmouth; grandchildren, Greg (Carolyn) Pemberton, Halifax; Lisa (Stephen) Prevost, Tantallon; Jason Pemberton, Calgary, AB; Rev. Joseph (Sherri) Steeves, Whitewood, Saskatchewan; great–grandchildren, Abigail Pemberton, Brennan Prevost and Cameron Prevost; special friend, John Holden, Windsor; sister–in–law, Gladys (Dale) Burke, Charlottetown, PEI; many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband, Wallace; son, Kenneth; daughter, Carolyn (Blaine) Pemberton; brothers, Frank (Evelyn) Purvis and Elroy Purvis; sisters, Beulah (Charles) Kelly and Erma (Paul) Strong; son–in–law, Rev. Gerad Steeves. Visitation was Thursday, December 28, from 3-5 and 7–9 p.m. in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 29, 2006, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jeffrey White officiated, followed by a private family interment, at the Ste. Croix Cemetery, St. Croix. Family flowers only, donations in memory of Arlene, were requested to be made to Canadian Cancer Society, Hants Community Hospital, or charity of choice. Special thank you to Dr. Kilcollins, Dr. Enwright and Dr. Smith in Windsor, also Dr. Bonjer in Halifax, and the wonderful nursing staff at the Hants Community Hospital, units 200 and 500.
