December 31, 2006 to January 6, 2007 continued Constance Alice Stephens, 92, passed away in Surf Lodge Nursing Home, Lockeport on Tuesday, January 2, 2007 with her family by her side. Born in Shelburne, she was a daughter of the late Jeremiah and Susan (Enslow) Benham. Connie lived at home with her daughter, Debbie, all her life and then moved to Surf Lodge seven months ago. She was a loving mother and grandmother and was very fond of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by son, Gregory (Ellen), Georgetown, Ont, daughters, Patricia Ossinger, Gunning Cove, Lucille “Tillie� (Alan) Stewart, Lockeport, Debbie (Delma) MacIntosh, Lockeport;13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and three great-great granddaughters; five step-granchildren and eight step-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by husband, Quentin, son, Randall, brothers, Eric, Lionel and Edwin; sisters, Jessie, Anastasia, Winnifred, Geraldine; son in-law, Kenneth Ossinger, daughters in-law, Elizabeth and Marie Stephens. The funeral service was held in Lockeport Pentecostal Church on Friday, January 5, 2007 with Pastor Terry Penney and Pastor Bradley Pass officiating. Interment in Lockeport Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to Surf Lodge Nursing Home.
December 31, 2006 to January 6, 2007 continued Florence M. “Betsy� Coombs, 76, of Queens Manor, Liverpool, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, January 3, 2007 in Queens Manor. Born in Milton, she was a daughter of the late Stanley and Laura (Martin) MacNutt. She was a housekeeper for various private homes for many years. She is survived by sisters, Amy (Alfred) Titus of Caledonia, Maxine Boutilier of Hackett’s Cove; brothers: Mervin (Donna) of Liverpool, Victor of Caledonia, Lorne (Terry) of Alberta. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernest; son, Donald; sisters, Marion and Greta; brothers: Merrill, Morris, Walter, Hallett and Gordon. Funeral service was held Thursday, Jan. 4 in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool; Rev. Jennifer Garbin officiated. Burial in Milton Community Cemetery. December 31, 2006 to January 6, 2007 continued DYKENS, Mona Helena - 91, Three Mile Plains, Hants Co., passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 3, 2007, at home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Three Mile Plains, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Annie (Chapman) DeMont. Mona enjoyed going to her grandson's dances, playing TV bingo, and cooking for family and friends. She always loved having company over and her motto was, "The more the merrier". Nobody was a stranger in Mona's home. Mona was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by daughters, Shirley Dykens, Louise Lunn, Jean (Wayne) Reynolds, and Nancy (Reid) Davis, all of Three Mile Plains; son, Charlie (Stephanie) Dykens, Three Mile Plains; 16 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mona was predeceased by her husband, Peter; sons, Gordon and Bertrum; daughter, Beulah; sister, Nina Smeltzer; brothers, Fred, George, and Harold DeMont; son-in-law, Toot Sherman, and three grandchildren. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lohnes Funeral Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where the family received visitors from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, January 5. Funeral service was held 2 p.m. Saturday, January 6 in Lohnes Funeral Service Chapel, Rev. Jeffrey White officiated. Interment was held in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor, with a reception following in the funeral home's Elmcroft Reception Centre. Family flowers only. December 31, 2006 to January 6, 2007 continued TITUS, Bonny Marlene – 55 of Freeport, passed away January 3, 2007 in Kings Regional Rehabilitation Centre, Waterville, N.S. Born in Freeport, she was a daughter of the late Clyde Robbins Stark and Viola May (Patterson) Stark. Prior to her accident, Bonnie was employed by D.B. Kenny Fisheries, Westport for numerous years. She enjoyed reading, sewing and crafts and she loved her family dearly. She is survived by sons, Frederick (Jackie), Freeport; Anthony, Greenwood; stepdaughter, Joan (Gunter) Rothen, Germany; sister Patsy Crocker, Cornwallis; brother, Rodney (Leta) Stark, Freeport; grandchildren; Kyle Weir, Tyler Titus and Jacob Titus. She was predeceased by her husband Melbourne Titus and brother Gregory. Special thanks to the nurses and staff of the Friars Unit, Kings Regional Rehabilitation Centre for the many years of care and a very special thanks to Joy Gates for her years of caring. The funeral service was held Jan. 6 in Freeport Baptist Church, Rev. Renee Clark and Lou Outhouse officiating. Interment in Brookside Cemetery, Freeport. December 31, 2006 to January 6, 2007 continued Geraldine Beatrice Carolyn Meldrum - 75, Kingston, Kings Co., formerly of Berwick, Kings Co. passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, January 4, 2007, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Berwick, she was a daughter of the late Hallett & Kathleen (Burns) Jones. She had been a member of the Ladies Auxilliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Ortona Branch # 69, Berwick. She, along with her fellow 1946-48 Berwick Forresters Ladies Soft Ball Team were inducted in the Berwick Sports Hall of Fame in June of 2000. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed doing crafts. Surviving are her partner, Vianney Tardif, Kingston; daughters, Judith Lynn Meldrum, New Minas; Maureen Joan (Bob) Lutz, Welsford; son, Ted Harold (Shelley) Meldrum, Coldbrook; grandchildren, Tracey Dawn (Troy) Nickerson; Craig Robert (Angela) Lutz; great-grandson, Drew Wilson Lutz; step-great-grandchildren, Courtney & Caitlin Nickerson; sisters, Pauline (Claude) Berry, Melvern Square; Ardythe (Francis) Daniels, Grafton; several nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her dear pet, an African grey parrot, Carmen. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her former husband, Harold Leslie Meldrum; sisters, Marie Dean; Myrna Brennan; brothers, Vaughan, Earle and Morley Jones. Visitation for Geraldine was held Saturday, January 6, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial Street, Berwick (902-538-9900), from where the funeral service was held 2 p.m. Sunday, January 7. Rev. Leon Langille officiated. December 31, 2006 to January 6, 2007 continued Edith Keen (Martin) Mouradian, 94, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 3, 2007, at Meadowbrook Manor, South Brookfield, Queens County. Born in South Brookfield, she was a daughter of the late Gaylord and Ellen (Wile) Burhoe. Edith married Gilfred Martin and spent her early married-life living in Harmony Mills, NS, where she was postmistress for a number of years. After Gilfred’s death, she moved to Boston, Mass., where she worked in Long’s Jewelry Store. There she met and married Andrew Mouradian. She spent her retired years in St. Petersburg, Fla. and Saint John, NB, before she moved to Meadowbrook Manor. She is survived by her sons: John (Ruby) of Hamilton, Ont., Frank William “Bill� (Lydia) of Sable River, Howard (Janet) of Caledonia; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Emily Walsh of St. John, NB; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband, Gilfred Martin; her second husband, Andrew Mouradian; sisters: Irene, Abby and Jean; brothers: Knight, Lyman, Frank and Rory. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. A memorial service will be held at a later date. December 31, 2006 to January 6, 2007 continued James Lewis Crowell, 59, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2007, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born in Riverhead, he was the son of Jennie (Smith) Crowell, Riverhead and the late Malcolm Crowell. He regularly attended the Wesleyan Church and attended the Cancer Support Group, Barrington. Jim was involved with all aspects of cars since he was a teenager - from racing to repair. He was a mechanic for 42 years; 15 of those spent traveling to the Southern United States to ready NASCAR #71 for Marcis Auto Racing. He was happiest chest deep in the engine block of a Chev., a cold cup of black coffee within arms reach. He will always be known for his infectious smile and bent sense of humour. He was a loyal and devoted friend, father, grandfather and husband. He was in all ways Brave In Life. Fearless. He is survived by his wife, Brenda; sons, James (Mary-Anne), Churchover; Jonathan (Mandy), New Westminister, B.C.; Neil (Paula), Oxford,; stepson, John (Janet) Sears, New Germany; daughter, Samantha (Doug) Brannen, Clyde River; stepdaughter, Lisa (Dave) Pothier, Sherose Island; sister, Janet (Ernest) Williams, Raynardton; grandchildren, Kelsey, Andrew, Connor, Kallie, Gracie; stepgrandchildren, Kyle, Lukas, Wesley, Sasha, Talent, Amber, Emma. December 31, 2006 to January 6, 2007 continued MANUEL, Brian Charles - 58, Walton, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 5, 2007 in the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, Nova Scotia. Born in England, he was the son of the late Carleton and Winnifred (Leggett) Manuel. Brian is survived by his wife, Laurel (Moore) Manuel, and his daughter Crystal Anne Manuel. Cremation has taken place. No visitation by request. A Celebration of Brian’s life will take place at a later date. Donation’s in Brian’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
