December 31, 2006 to January 6, 2007 Christopher Paul Masland, 65, of Liverpool, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 31, 2006, in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool. Born in Wantage, England, he was the son of Mary (Jackson) and the late Arthur “John� Masland. Christopher was educated in England, attending Harrow on the Hill, moving to Nova Scotia in 1961 and attending Dalhousie University. He was a land surveyor and was chief surveyor at Bowater Mersey Paper Company for 20 years, retiring in 2001. He loved to fish and spent many hours on his boat “Shark Fever�, catching, tagging and releasing sharks for the Bedford Institute of Oceanography. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Linda (Boone); daughter, Jennifer (Owen) Charlton; and son, Adam (Kim) Masland, all of Liverpool; sister, Victoria (Larry) Booth of Orillia, Ont.; sister-in-law, Andrea Boone of Fredericton, N.B.; grandchildren: Kelsey Clattenburg, Kieran Clattenburg and Cooper Charlton; nieces, Ashley Booth, Alison Booth, Olivia Booth; nephews: Marcus Booth, Jared Booth, all of Orillia, Ont. He was predeceased by an infant son, Richard John; a brother, Guy Roger. A Celebration of Chris’ life was held Saturday, Jan. 6, from Trinity Anglican Church, Liverpool; Rev. Arthur Nash officiated. December 31, 2006 to January 6, 2007 MILBERY, Arnold Leroy – 75, Villa Acadienne, Meteghan, and formerly of Pleasant Street, Yarmouth, passed away on Sunday, December 31, 2006, in the villa. Born August 5, 1931 in Bear River, he was a son of the late Harry and Alena (Hicks) Milbery. He owned and operated the Ultramar service station on Main Street, Yarmouth for more than thirty years, and also owned and operated Milbery’s Trailer and RV Parts, on the Hardscratch Road in Yarmouth. Arnold served with the Canadian Armed Forces (Paratrooper Division), and was a veteran of the Yarmouth Fire Department, Naid Co. Surviving are his wife, Bernice (Surette) Milbery; sons, Wayne (Janet) Milbery, South Ohio; David (Eleanor) Milbery and Michael Milbery, both of Alberta; grandchildren, Luke, Erica and Dylan. He is also survived by sisters, Carolyn (Mike) Norman, British Columbia; Margo (Don) Fraser, Dartmouth; Louise (Ron) Bain, Yarmouth; brothers, Lorne (Lorraine) Milbery, South Ohio; Richard Milbery, Bridgewater; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Kenneth Milbery and George Milbery. Visitation took place from 7-9 Thursday, January 4, with prayers at 7:30 PM, both in H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. The funeral mass took place at 11:00 AM, Friday, January 5, from Saint Ambrose Cathedral, Albert Street, Yarmouth, Father John MacPherson officiated. Interment will take place at a later date. December 31, 2006 to January 6, 2007 JACQUARD, Irene Rose – Irene Rose Jacquard, nee LeBlanc, 82, Lower Wedgeport, Yarmouth Co., passed away on Monday, January 1, 2007 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born February 12, 1924 in Wedgeport, she was a daughter of the late Odilon and Clara (LeBlanc) LeBlanc. She was predeceased by her husband, Michel, a daughter Dianne, and a sister, Ethel. She is survived by sons, Ken, Yarmouth, and Donnie (Rhoda), Lower Wedgeport; brother, Harold LeBlanc; sister, Margaret LeBlanc; grandchildren, Michelle (Steve) Travis, Kenny Jacquard, and their mother, Denise; Jacques Boudreau, Chantal Boudreau, Gabrielle Boudreau, and their father, Thomas. Also surviving are a great-grandson and son-in-law, Russell Deveau. Irene cared for her family and friends, and appreciated the beauties of nature. She was a loyal baseball fan and a former employee of Villa Saint Joseph-du-Lac. Visitation was from 2-4 and again from 7-9 Wednesday, with prayers at 8 PM, both in H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Wedgeport. The funeral mass was celebrated at 11:30 AM on Thursday, January 4 from Saint Michael’s Catholic Church, Wedgeport, Msgr. Gerald LeBlanc officiated. Born October 24, 1921 in Pomquet, Antigonish Co., she was a daughter of the late Simon and Jane (Boudreau) Landry. Annie was a homemaker, and was a member of Holy Family parish. Surviving are her husband, Alfred “Fred� Surette; a son, Brian (Annette) Surette, Sluice Point; daughters, Louise (James) Atkinson, Middle East Pubnico; Shirley Surette, at home; grandchildren, Jennifer, Laura, David, Steven, Melissa; sisters, Mary d’Entremont, Nakile Home for Special Care, Argyle; Natalie Morell, Antigonish; brothers, Charlie Landry, Pomquet; Leo (Emily) Landry, Walkerton, Ont.; Johnnie (Lillian) Landry, Pomquet. Besides her parents she was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Landry. Visitation was from 2-4 and again from 7-9 Wednesday, with prayers at 8 PM, both in H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. December 31, 2006 to January 6, 2007 Clara Marjorie (Marriott) Ford - 77, Melville Lodge, Halifax, formerly of Wolfville, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 1, 2007, in Melville Lodge, Halifax, NS. A broken heart is on the way to being mended as our mom starts her journey to be reunited with the love of her life, Thomas Ford, after 27 years. Born in Fairview, Nova Scotia, she was the fourth child of the late Walter and Flora (Berry) Marriott. During their wonderful life together, Thomas and Clara operated several service stations from Stephenville, NL, Moncton, NB and Sydney and Bras ’dor, Cape Breton. While living in Stephenville, she was involved in Home and School, Lioness and the Order of Eastern Star. Their last business venture was the Western Tire in New Minas, NS, before retiring to their hobby farm in Delhaven. Clara was a volunteer with the VON Foot Clinic and also volunteered at the front desk at the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, NS. Clara is survived by her son, Mitchell (Tessa) Ford, Calgary, and grandson Thomas; daughter Marlene (Loran) Woodsworth, Italy Cross and two grandchildren, Alicia and Gregory Porter; sisters, Vera Angus, Aileen Poole, Julia Heald, Karen Newton, and Dianne VanNorden, and brother Wayne Marriott; as well as several nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly. Besides her parents, Clara was predeceased by her husband of 32 years, Thomas A. Ford; sisters Avis Maxwell and Gloria (Rideout) Carr; and brothers Lloyd and Don. As a sister, mother, grandmother and aunt, she will be missed deeply. Cremation has taken place. No visitation by request. A Memorial Service was held on Friday, January 5 at 2 p.m. at the St. John’s Anglican Church, Church Street, Port Williams, Nova Scotia. Rev. Garrett officiated. Interment followed in the St. John’s Anglican Church Cemetery. A reception followed in the Sunday School Hall. There was also a reception on Friday, January 5 at 5:30 p.m. in Room 305, Old Orchard Inn (Exit 11), Greenwich, NS. Donations in Clara’s memory may be made to charity of one’s choice. December 31, 2006 to January 6, 2007 Mary Elizabeth “Fern� Maxwell - 93, of the Wolfville Nursing Home, formerly of Port Williams, Kings County, passed away Monday, January 1, 2007 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Montreal, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Mary (Antle) Marshall. She completed her education at MacDonald College, earning her certificate in teaching. She taught school in Montreal until moving with her husband to Port Williams. She continued her teaching career as a substitute teacher in Nova Scotia. She was a member of the Port Williams Women’s Institute and an adherent of the Port Williams United Baptist Church. She was well-known for her crafts and enjoyed knitting, especially hats to donate to the pediatric units of local hospitals. She is survived by her son, Frederick “Earl� (Mary), Greenwich, two granddaughters, Lindsay, Halifax and Allison, Ottawa. She was predeceased by her husband, George Earl Maxwell; her sister, Ruth. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville and there will be no visitation by family request. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date in the Fox Hill Cemetery, Port Williams. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Doctor Michael Patterson and the nurses and staff of both the Wolfville Nursing Home and the Valley Regional Hospital for your kindness, care and compassion. Born in Halls Harbour, he was a son of the late Oran and Annie Marie (Zwicker) Goucher. Fred was self-employed as a carpenter. He is survived by his wife, the former Bertha Bond; four daughters, Darlene (Kevin) Keeney, Coldbrook; Ruth Goucher, Cambridge; Annie (Neil) Keddy, Coldbrook; Bertha (Matt) Meisner, St. Catharines, Ontario; five sons, Frederick (Tami), Lakeville; Dale, Cambridge; Oran (Susan), Cambridge; Christopher (Laura), Cambridge; Bertner, Cambridge; a brother, Freeman (June), New Minas; numerous grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Violet and a sister, Joyce, in infancy; a brother, Bertner. December 31, 2006 to January 6, 2007 Pansy Pauline Rogers - 86, of Bedford, formerly of Blomidon, Kings County, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, Monday, January 1, 2007 in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in Ross Corner, Kings County, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Thorpe) Graves. Together with her late husband, she enjoyed a life-long career in farming and had a great love for her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Active in many aspects of her church and her community, she was a member of the Pereaux United Baptist Church and a founding member of the Blomidon Women’s Institute. She was an artistic lady and enjoyed quilting, cooking and excelled as a seamstress. She is survived by two daughters, Virginia and her husband, Anthony Coles, Riverview, New Brunswick; Marie and her husband, Les Reece, Bedford; six grandchildren, Cynthia Coles, Taiwan; Christopher Coles, British Columbia; Jill Elena Coles, Ontario; Judith Coles, Halifax; Nathan (Maia) Reece and Jenna Reece (Darrell), both of Dartmouth; five great grandchildren, Reonia, Shakown, Keyanna, Tavia and Taylor; four sisters, Marjorie Pineo, New Minas; Hazel Foster, Auburn; Dorothy Foote, Ross Corner; Clara (Blake) Winott, Kingston; a brother, Bedford Graves, Berwick; a sister-in-law, Myrtle Coffill, Wolfville; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald Rogers; a sister, Frances Longley and a brother, Luther Graves. Visitation was held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2007 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service, which was followed by a reception, was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 6, 2007 in the Pereaux United Baptist Church. Reverend Derek Langille officiated.
