December 24, 2006 to December 30, 2006 continued Nellie E Illsley - 89, Aylesford, Kings Co. passed away Monday, December 25, 2006, in the Grand View Manor, Berwick. There was no visitation at the funeral home. A graveside service was held on at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 28, in the Aylesford Union Cemetery. Pastor Kay Dean D.M. and Rev. Lloyd Stewart officiated. December 24, 2006 to December 30, 2006 continued Burlin W. Sweet - 86, Somerset, Kings Co. passed away Monday, December 25, 2006, in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. There was no visitation. A private graveside service has taken place in the Berwick Cemetery. Rev. Charles Bull officiated. Donations in his memory may be made to the Margaret Salsman Cancer Care Memorial. December 24, 2006 to December 30, 2006 continued Weldon L. Thompson, 86, of Labelle, Queens County, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 26, 2006 in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool. Born in East Sable River, Shelburne County, he was a son of the late George and Amanda (Latham) Thompson. Weldon was a veteran of World War II, serving with the West Nova Scotia Regiment from 1939 to 1946 overseas in England, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Italy and Sicily. Following the war, he fished for awhile, then turned his sights to Northern Ontario where he worked as a nickel miner with INCO for 30 years until his retirement. He loved fishing and moose hunting and camping. He loved to “putter� in his workshop making everything and anything “better�. He was also very attached to two special friends Bullet and Fred. He is survived by his wife, the former Winnifred Thompson; daughter Linda (Kevin) Bozac, of Labelle. Sons: Laurie (Barbara) of Alma, ON and Rodney (Bernadette) of Sudbury, ON. Sister Rhoda Williams of Lockeport as well as special friends Chase, Cooper and Brigus. He was predeceased by sisters: Leota, Nina and Bernice and brothers Warren and Victor. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. A private family service will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to any charity. December 24, 2006 to December 30, 2006 continued Mae Avis Anthony, 93, of Brooklyn, Queens County, passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2006, in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool. Born in Voglers Cove, she was a daughter of the late Clifford and Charity (Bishard) Whynacht. Mae was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a former member of the Women’s Institute of Nova Scotia, a member of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, St. Andrew’s Altar Guild and the A.C.W. She loved camping with her family at the Plantation Campground near Berwick. She enjoyed crafts, crocheting, reading and crossword puzzles. She is survived by granddaughters, Stephanie (John) Watson and Denise Smith, both of Dartmouth; grandson, David (Susan) Shupe of Waverly; great-grandchildren: Kyle, Matthew, Renee, Victor; sister, Evelyn (Garth) Baker of Voglers Cove. She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Walter; daughter, Avis; sister, Alice; brother, Eldred. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Chandlers’ Funeral Home, Liverpool. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 30, from St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Brooklyn; Rev. Arthur Nash officiated. Burial in Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Liverpool. December 24, 2006 to December 30, 2006 continued LAWRENCE, David Oscar - 49, Oxford/Dartmouth, passed away December 27, 2006, in Oxford. Born on September 14, 1957, in Yarmouth, he was the son of Oscar and Angie (Crawford) Lawrence. He graduated from Yarmouth Consolidated Memorial High School. He worked with Corrections Canada for 25 years as a corrections officer in both the Edmonton and Springhill institutions. He received an award for Exemplary Service, which is one of the highest awards in Canada. He was a hard worker and was well-respected by his coworkers. He loved golf, hockey and tennis. He was a loving father, son and brother. When he was younger, he attended Greenville United Baptist Church Sunday school and also attended Youth Group under Rev. P.A. Best. He is survived by his wife, Denise (Wilson) Lawrence, Oxford; daughters, Amanda (Dale) Lawrence, Edmonton; Shanna Lee Lawrence, Edmonton; sons, Tyrone Lawrence, Halifax; Zachery Lawrence, Oxford; brother, Donald (Cathy) Lawrence, Halifax; sisters, Pearline (Andrew) Miller, Dartmouth; Wendy (Tony) Lawrence, Maple Ridge, B.C.; four grandchildren; 10 nieces and nephews, and several cousins. He was predeceased by his sister, Marie; maternal grandparents, Ivan and Marguerite Crawford; paternal grandparents, Alvin and Mabel Lawrence. Visitation was held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 1 in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth. The funeral took place Tuesday, Jan. 2 at 2 p.m. in The Salvation Army Church, Brunswick Street, Yarmouth, Rev. It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Agnes Jensen, Eldridge Road, Falmouth, Hants Co., who passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit, Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, on Wednesday, December 27, 2006. Agnes resided in Ontario and moved to Nova Scotia after her husband's death in 1975. Born in Stavely, Alberta, April 10, 1919, she was a daughter of the late Leonard Sr. and Florence (Tanner) Feener of Liverpool. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband, Jim; sisters, Lucille Feener, Florence “Pommy� Robertson, and brother, Leonard Feener. She is survived by sisters, Myrtle Feener, Mary Robertson and Betty Wentzell; nieces, Margo Jeefery, Sabrina Rhindress, Mary Lou Robertson; nephews, Frank Robertson and Edward Robertson; great-nephews, Ryan Mercier, Hans and Land Rhindress. A very special thanks to the staff of Hants Community Hospital and to her very special friends, Pat and Suzanne, who were so very kind to her. Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Lohnes Funeral Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). As per Agnes’ wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. December 24, 2006 to December 30, 2006 continued Mrs. Stella Hammett, age 83, of Prince Albert, Sask., passed away on December 28, 2006. Funeral service was held January 4, 2007 from Zion United Church, Broad Street, Regina, Sask. Stella is survived by her loving family; son Larry (Pam) and their children Jennifer and Erin; her daughter Carol (Dennis) Boghean and their children Bonnie and Tom; sister Glenna Murray; half sisters Claire Tracey and Pauline Baxter. She was predeceased by her husband Charles; her parents Hilda and Percy Greenough; brother Herb; sister Myrtle Haley and half brother Owen Bowie. She will be sadly missed by all. Burial took place at Riverside Park Cemetery in Regina.

Born in Petty Harbour, Newfoundland on September 3, 1925, she was a daughter of the late James and Frances (Chafe) Stack. She was a member of St. Ambrose Cathedral and also a member of the Catholic Women's League. Mrs. Goodwin was a veteran of the Second World War and was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 61, Yarmouth. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by daughters, Donna Marie (James) Weiss, Stony Plain, Alta.; Rita (Jeff) Sweeney, Prince George, B.C.; Elaine Doucet, Yarmouth; sons, Tom (Theresa) Goodwin, Dartmouth; Greg (Marianne) Goodwin, Bridgewater; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Cline Goodwin; brother, Edward; sisters, Rita and Mary. Visitation was held Monday, Jan. 1 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with prayers at 8 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home. The funeral service was held Tuesday, Jan. 2 at 10 a.m. in St. Ambrose Cathedral, Father John MacPherson officiated. Burial in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. Born in Sandford, Yarmouth Co., he was a son of the late Aaron F. and Leta M. (Churchill) Churchill. He was a fisherman in his early years, a fish processor in his middle years and a golfer in his later years. He is survived by daughter, Bonnie (J.Nick) Kenney, Yarmouth; brother, Winston C. Churchill, Sandford, Yarmouth Co.; grandson, Nick S.; six nieces and nephews, and a number of grandnieces and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Florence; son, Stewart; sister, Verna Churchill. The body rested in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth, where funeral service was held 2 p.m. Sunday, December 31, Rev. Karl Gorman officiated. Interment was in Darling Lake Cemetery.
