Some health care is better than none
Editorial from the Digby Courier
Wait times are zero some days at Digby’s Emergency Department. Of course some days there are no doctors.
The ED was closed 25 days in 2006 because of a shortage of doctors. Twenty-two of those closures occurred after Dr. Naqvi lost the support of his local mentor.
Doctors it seems are hard to come by. And it’s even harder to get them to work and live in a rural area like Digby.
It is time to examine new options like using nurse practitioners and highly trained paramedics to staff the emergency department.
Some health care is better than none – especially in an emergency.
