Georgina Roberta Morine - 80, Wolfville, passed away Thursday, December 21, 2006 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Poplar Grove, Hants Co., she was the daughter of the late Robert and Mary (Sanford) Hanes. Georgina worked hard all of her life. She worked for many years at M. L. Dimock (Boarding House) in Wolfville. She worked for several years for R. E. McCluskey. Georgina also worked at Cleveland Grocery as well as Kelly’s Restaurant, the Five ’n’ Dime, and at the Acadia dining hall. Georgina was a member of the United Church of St. Andrew’s, Wolfville, where she was a pillar of the church, often volunteering long hours to church functions. She was a lifetime member of the U.C.W. church group. Georgina is remembered as being thoroughly organized and involved in absolutely everything, always helping others in any way she could. Her family remembers Georgina as incredibly thoughtful, always thinking of others first. She was a very caring and selfless person, always more concerned for those around her than of herself. She was a rock of support to her family. Georgina is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Murray; daughters, Heather (Ken) Morine, Wolfville, Judy (Henry) Messom, Woodville; Grandchildren, Jennifer and Joel Messom, Woodville; brother, David (Bergetta) Hanes, Barrie, ON.; sisters, Victoria Smith, Upper Burlington, Hants Co., Elinor Malcolm, Poplar Grove, Hants Co., and Helen Ryhno, Calgary, Alberta. Besides her parents, Georgina was predeceased by her brother Owen. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of H. C. Lindsay Funeral Homes, 568 Main Street, Wolfville (902-542-2151), where visitation for Georgina was held Tuesday, December 26 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral service was held December 27 at 2 p.m. in the United Church of St. Andrews, Wolfville. Rev. Robyn Brown-Hewitt officiated. Interment took place in Willow Bank Cemetery following the service. Norma Jean Wagner - 79, of Chipman Corner, Kings County, passed away Thursday, December 21, 2006 at home. Born in North Battleford, Saskatchewan, she was a daughter of the late Dave and Eula (Stevens) MacPherson. She had been employed with the former T.P. Calkin Limited, Kentville and was later a homemaker. She enjoyed traveling the countryside, especially on Sunday drives. She is survived by her devoted husband of 57 years, Nelson; two daughters, Catherine Mills, Canning; Donna Larder, New Ross; two sons, Scott, Glenmont; David, Oliver, British Columbia; four grandchildren, Thomas, Shawn, Colin and Dean; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Grant and a grandson, Mathew. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where visitation was held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, December 23, 2006. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations in memory may be made to the charity of your choice. Ross “Duke�? Watkins - It is with sad and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved and loving husband, father, father-in-law, step-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, friend, and mentor Ross “Duke�? Watkins, 72, of Kentville. Ross passed away peacefully in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, New Halifax Infirmary Site, Halifax, on December 21, 2006 surrounded by family after a short battle with lung cancer. Ross is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, the former June “Tuckie�? Baker, son, Rob; daughter-in-law Caroline; step-granddaughter, Julia; his brothers, Bruce, Vancouver and Brian, Edmonton; brother-in-law, Robert “Archie�? Baker, Vancouver; sisters-in-law, M. Samways “Twinkle�?, Dartmouth; R. Clark “Penny�?, Halifax; D. MacNeil and husband, Frank, Vermont; many nieces and nephews. Ross was predeceased by his parents, Geoff and Eleanor (Sanders); brother-in-law, Doug Samways; grandniece, Caitlyn Roach; and recently by his niece, June Roach. Born and educated in Montreal on September 13, 1934, Ross thought it fitting to serve during the Korean War and he joined the Royal Canadian Navy. After the Navy he worked as a manufacturers agent, a stockbroker with Richardson Securities Limited, and he retired as Registrar of Deeds for Kings County. He was self-employed at the time of his passing. Upon moving to Kentville in 1969, Ross and his family were active volunteers in the community for many years. Past involvements have included: past president of St. Joseph’s Parish Council, past radio voice of Christmas Mass from St. Joseph’s Church Kentville, past chair of the Kings County School Board, past vice-president of the Nova Scotia Liberal Association, past executive member of the Cursillo movement, past chairperson of the local Nova Scotia Kidney Association chapter, and past member of the Gyro Club. At the time of his passing he was a life-long avid golfer and member of the Ken-Wo Golf and Country Club, and a volunteer on the Town of Kentville Finance Committee. Ross was known and loved for his keen sense of humour and sharp wit. He will be greatly missed by one and all. Ross was a man of great faith and believer in ecumenism. He was active in the establishment of both the Catholic and Anglican Cursillo movements in the Maritimes. Visitation was held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.to 9 p.m. with prayers held at 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 26, 2006 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2006 in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Kentville. A reception followed in the parish hall. SOMERS, Muriel Louisa (nee Bruce) - After a short, but courageous battle, Muriel Somers, 75, passed away on Saturday, December 23rd, 2006 at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. Muriel passed with her three sons, Stephen of Burlington, Peter of Toronto and John of California by her side. Wife of the late Ken Somers of Oakville and daughter of the late Lloyd and Hilda Bruce of Bridgetown, NS and sister to the late Enna Wylie and the late Wallace Bruce. Muriel is survived by her two sisters: Joyce McCrady and Pauline MacInnes. Beloved Grandie to Stephen’s two children: Coleman and Chloe and John’s two children: Theo and Eli. Muriel leaves beloved daughters-in-law: Elizabeth and Jennifer-Jo. Also known and loved as Moonie by her many family members and friends. Muriel will be sadly missed. Visitation was held at the Kopriva Taylor Funeral Home, Oakville on Wednesday the 27th of December. A service to celebrate Muriel’s life was held on Thursday, December 28th, 2006 in the chapel of Kopriva Taylor. A reception followed the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Daisy G. Proctor died peacefully at her Tillamook home with her family at her side Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at the age of 95 years. Daisy was born June 7, 1911 in Shelburne, Nova Scotia, Canada to Henry and Nellie Davis. In 1931 she married Granville Cunningham. Together with their eight children they moved to Massachusetts in 1959. After the death of her husband in 1966, Daisy and her family moved to Tillamook. Later she met and
married Willard Procter who died in 1981. Daisy’s life was filled with love of
family, friends and flowers. She was whole souled in her service to Jehovah God and shared her faith with all. She will be dearly missed by all in the congregation. She is survived by four daughters, Evelyn Cunningham, Ethel and husband, Ken Chowning, Joyce Moore of Tillamook, Bonnie and
husband, Roger Crigger of Idaho; two sons, Bud and wife Liz Cunningham, Dale and wife Sheri Cunningham of Tillamook; 12 grandchildren, 19 great
grandchildren, one great great
granddaughter. And also by many nieces and nephews and a special friend Barbara Olson. She was
preceded in death by two daughters, Linda Cunningham and Ruth Bindee. A memorial service was held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 5000 Idaville Road in Tillamook, Oregon, Saturday January 6, 2007 with Robert Olson officiating.

HANDSPIKER, Bereace D. – died peacefully at Alexandra Hospital, Ingersoll, Ontario on Friday, Dec. 22, 2006 in her 85th year. Of London, Ontario, but formerly of Digby, she was predeceased by sisters Zelda, Vivian, Phyllis and brothers Clyde, Hartford, Thurston, Devure and Glendon. Sadly missed by her nieces and nephews; Ray Roy (Helen), Gary Roy (Kathy), Larry Roy (Donna), Dennis Roy and niece Brenda Tyndall; Don Handspiker (Heather), Wayne Betts (Noreen), Doug Betts and niece Dawn. Predeceased by her nephew Glen. Fondly remembered by Glen’s wife Sue Roy. BARKER, Trevor Mitchell, age 32, of Windsor, Hants County, passed away suddenly on Friday, December 22, 2006, at home. Born on September 26, 1974, in Windsor, Hants County, Nova Scotia, he was the son of Valerie Rafuse (Barker), Windsor, and Gary Flynn, Edmonton, Alberta. Trevor loved the outdoors, animals, and in his spare time, four wheeling with his friends. Trevor was always a hard worker at everything he did. He was always a great support to his Mom, loved his children, was the apple of his Nannie and Bampie’s eye, and also to his special Aunt Mary and Uncle Bill. Trevor was well liked by all who knew him and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. DOLLIVER, Florence – Lockeport, formerly of Shelburne, passed away in Surf Lodge Nursing Home on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2006. Born in Deland, Fla., she was a daughter of the late Crowell and Leona Perry. Florence was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother and enjoyed being with her family. She is survived by sons, Tony (Eileen), Clyde River, Ralph (Carolyn O’Connell), Dartmouth; daughters, Pauline (Robert) Buckley, Birchtown, Shirley Brown, Machias, Me., Beverley (Jeff) Doane, Barrington; sisters, Kathleen Perry, Renerngton, Daisy (Alfred) MacKenzie, Clyde River, Mary Bezanson, New Glasgow; ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Loran; brothers, Kenneth, Edward, Benjamin and Raymond; sister, Dorothy; son, Gordon; and granddaughter, Jennifer. FRAKELTON, L. Jean — Passed away at Extendicare Nursing Home, Scarborough, Ont., on Friday, December 22, 2006. She is survived by sons: Eric, Shane and Stephen; and sister, Marjorie Mack of Mill Village, Queens County. She was predeceased by her brother, Alfred Mack. Jean has donated her body to medical research at the School of Anatomy, University of Toronto.
