Captain Murray Douglas Levy, 53, of West Berlin, Queens County, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, December 11, 2006, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born in Liverpool, he was a son of Nellie (Fox) (Levy) Crouse of Liverpool, and the late Arthur D. Levy. Murray was a fisherman and attended Navigational School, where he obtained his Master Three Captain’s Papers. He taught navigation in Barrington and Bridgewater in the past, and enjoyed being “a teacher�. He was also a roll off truck driver for GE’s All Trucking. He loved hunting and fishing in his spare time. He is survived by his wife and best friend, the former Susan Whynot; daughter, Angela (Ronald) Young of Brooklyn; granddaughter, Leigh-ann; sisters, Jo-Ann Levy of Windsor, Kathy Jo (Bernard) Rumbolt of Bridgewater; a number of nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents; his maternal grandfather; his precious Nan, Elva Fox; and his beloved rabbit hound Katy, who went 48 hours before him “to check out the hunting grounds�. Funeral service was held Thursday, Dec. 14 in Chandlers’ Funeral Chapel, Liverpool; Rev. Linda Reed officiated. Burial in St. John’s Anglican Cemetery, West Berlin. Doris Winnifred Brault, 79, a lifetime resident of Shelburne, passed away peacefully in Roseway Hospital on December 12, 2006, following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Shelburne, she was the daughter of the late Garnet W. Sr and Muriel A.(Williams) Hogg. Following her graduation from High School, she attended Bridgewater Commercial School and worked in various positions in local businesses in Shelburne and the Town of Shelburne retiring from the employ of the Shelburne County District School Board in 1992. Dot was a loving mother and grandmother. Her greatest times were those spent with her family and watching her favourite hockey team, the Montreal Canadians. She enjoyed sitting at her kitchen table in the early morning watching the birds and doing the daily crossword puzzles. She was an enthusiastic bridge player. Dot will be remembered for her love of poetry and her ability to recite long passages at will. She is survived by and will be deeply missed by son Denny (Barb Campbell); daughters, Gwen; Christina (Dana) Hicks: Linda (Barbara Bassett); beloved grandchildren, Paige and Brent Hicks; brothers, Garnet (Marion) Hogg; Gordon (Alberta) Hogg, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Roger Brault and in later years, her companion, Cecil Firth; sisters, Ada McLeod and Marg Jones. A memorial service to celebrate Dot’s life was held in H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Chapel with Rev. Joanne McFadden officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Beulah Burman Animal Shelter or charity of choice.

Muise, Mary "Jessie" - 92, of Yarmouth, passed away December 13, 2006, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born on November 23, 1914 in Yarmouth, she was a daughter of the late John Elroy and Mary Emma (Ward) Moulaison. She was a member of St. Ambrose Cathedral. She was also a member of the Yarmouth Golden Age Club. She was a homemaker and in later years worked at Dominion Textiles. She was an avid reader, she liked to sew, knit and make beautiful quilts. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She is survived by daughters Donna Freeman, Yarmouth; and Doris Muise, Yarmouth; son Paul (Ellen) Muise, Quebec; 2 granddaughters Bonnie (Rene) Dugas and Jolynn (Tommy) Muise; 3 great-grandchildren Jacob, Monique and Josette. She was predeceased by her husband George Alfred Muise; sisters Gladys and Pauline; granddaughter Marsha; and son-in-law Reginald Freeman. Visitation was held Sunday evening Dec. 17, 2006 from 7-9 with prayers at 8 at Sweeny's Funeral Chapel. Funeral service was held Monday, Dec.18 at 10 am from St. Ambrose Cathedral with Father John MacPherson officiated. Burial took place in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. MELANSON, Rose Celeste “Sister Mary Agnita� – 103, died in Parkstone Enhanced Care on Dec. 13. Born in Church Point, Digby County. Mass of Christian Burial was held at Mount Saint Vincent Motherhouse Chapel. Burial took place in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville.

BISHOP, Mary “Dale� – 87, of Lawrencetown, Anna. Co. passed away December 13, 2006 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Lawrencetown, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Ruby (Parker) Balcom. After graduating from the VG School of Nursing, Dale worked as a nurse in Middleton, Digby and Kentville. In her early years she worked as the only nurse in Caledonia. She was a member of the Bishop Family Association and enjoyed knitting and reading. Dale loved her family dearly. She is survived by husband William V. “Bill�; daughter, Anne Bishop, Lawrencetown; half-brother, Arthur (Joyce) Balcom, Black Rock; half-brother-in-law, Gerald Nickerson, Barrington Passage; nieces, Tina and Carrie and special nephews, Jason and Burlin. She was predeceased by a half-sister, Brenda Elizabeth (Balcom) Nickerson. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service was held Sunday, December 17, 2006 at Fairview Cemetery, Lawrencetown. BARTON, Pearl Lillian - 94, Stannus Street, Windsor, Hants Co., passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 13, 2006, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born June 4, 1912, in Windsor, she was a daughter of the late Israel and Lillian Jarrett. For 27 years, Pearl and her late husband, Harold, operated Acadia Stores Ltd., a grocery business in Windsor. Later, she was employed with Sears for 20 years and retired in 1976. Pearl was a graduate of Windsor Academy and the Windsor School of Business. Pearl was a lifelong resident of Windsor, she enjoyed gardening, pottery, weaving, sewing, knitting and crocheting. For over 50 years she was involved in the Arts and Crafts Exhibits at the Hants County Exhibition, serving as vice chairman and also as president. A member of Windsor United Church and also a member of the Senior „Lamp‰ Centre. Pearl was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold; brothers, Earle, Three Hills, Alta.; and Ralph, Windsor. She is survived by nieces and nephews. Pearl will be missed by her many friends and neighbors, especially those very dear to her in later years, Shirley Newcomb, Margaret McLellan, Edna Porter, and faithful visitor and dear friend, Grace Lake. Marjorie Lorraine "Dar" Kendrick -73, of Wolfville, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2006 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Pictou, she was a daughter of the late Lloyd and Kathleen (Emery) Crowell. She was a life-long resident of Wolfville, who devoted her life to her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She received much enjoyment in following their sporting accomplishments. She is survived by two daughters, Janie (Doug) Schofield, Canning; Joyce (Ernie) Nickerson, Dartmouth; a son, Tim (Mary), New Minas; two granddaughters, Lyndsay Corbin, Canning; Jennifer Kendrick, New Minas; three grandsons, Dallas Corbin, Kentville; Joseph and Jacob Kendrick, New Minas; two step-sons, Ralph (Janet), Petawawa, Ontario; Roy (Christine), Wolfville; two sisters, Jean Manning, Kentville; Judy (Jon) Rand, Port Williams; a brother, Gordon "Dub" (Cecile), Lower Wolfville; several nieces and nephews.
