War brides contributed much
A letter to the Annapolis County Spectator
Dear Editor:

Today I was honored to be able to attend a celebration of our local war brides, thanks to MLAs Stephen McNeil and Leo Glavine. Mr. McNeil brought forth the resolution in the House of Assembly to make 2006 the Year of the War Bride.

These two gentlemen combined forces to bring many of the local war brides and their families together for a ‘high tea’ at the Aurora Inn in Kingston on December 5. There were a great many people there and some of these ladies told their wonderful stories.

My mother, Elsie Balcom, was a war bride and I know what a great bond the local war brides have had over the years. It was no easy task for these young women to leave their families and all that was familiar to come to a ‘strange’ land. I can’t even imagine doing this, but they did and they all contributed so much to the fabric of our country. We are all richer for their contributions in our lives. My thanks to Stephen, Leo, and the ladies from their offices for a great afternoon.

Sincerely

Anne Marie Pearle,

Paradise
