November 12 to November 18, 2006 continued Ruby Emmeline Farnsworth - 97, formerly of Canning, Kings County, passed away Monday, November 13, 2006 in the Wolfville Nursing Home. Born in Canning, she was a daughter of the late Brenton and Mildred (Bloise) Spinney. She was a member of the Centreville United Baptist Church and a charter member of the Centreville Good Neighbour Club. Ruby loved gardening, and had a real "green thumb". She also loved poetry, singing, knitting, sewing and crocheting. She is survived by son-in-law, Harley E. Hazelwood, Dartmouth; daughter-in-law, Pauline Pineo, Halifax; son-in-law, Robert Watson, Edmonton; two sisters, Olive Ogilvie and Lillian Kynock; two sisters-in-law, Pauline Spinney and Reta Spinney; nine grandchildren, several great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Hardy Reginald Pineo; two daughters, Lena Watson and Kathleen Hazelwood; son, Bev Pineo; four sisters, Helen Vokes, Nellie Spinney, Myrtle Eddy and Nancy Hiltz; three brothers, Leonard, Gordon and William. There was no visitation by family request. The funeral service was held at 10 a.m. Friday, November 17, 2006 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Marc Potvin officiated. Burial took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill, Kings County. Donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Centreville United Baptist Church or the Canadian Cancer Society. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville.
November 12 to November 18, 2006 continued Marie Rosalie Banks - 64, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2006, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Scots Bay, she was a daughter of Leora (Dykens) Carey and the late Delbert Carey. Marie loved her flowers and working in her gardens. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, making jams and jellies each year and took great pleasure in giving these to her family and friends. Marie enjoyed playing the guitar with her daughter, Donna. She will be sadly missed by all her family and friends. Surviving are her loving husband of 48 years, James; daughters, Donna (Wayne) Carter, Berwick; Shirley Banks (Paul Horsnell), Aylesford; Linda (Charles) MacInnis, Halls Harbour; Peggy (David) MacInnis and Tina Banks, all of Scots Bay; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Marie is also survived by sisters, Sharon, Beatrice, Judith, Venetta and Deborah; brothers, Frederick, Bill and Donald, and many nieces and nephews. There was no visitation at the family's request. A memorial service was held 2 p.m. Saturday, November 18, in H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 5 Leverett Ave., Kentville (902-678-2151), Pastor June Keddy officiated. November 12 to November 18, 2006 continued William Harding Coldwell- born in Avonport, July 16, 1930, he was the son of John and Alice (Lewis) Coldwell. He passed away at the Valley Regional Hospital Friday, October 20, 2006 surrounded by his loving wife of 54 years, the former Ferne Nowlan, and children. Susan (Blair) Freeman, Fall River, William (Karen) Windsor, Linda (Vaughan) Marriott, Grand Pre, Valerie (Bruce) Stailing, Hammonds Plains, Philip, Coldbrook, Joy (Jim) Hamilton, Port Williams, Angela (John) Vandereit, Shubenacadie, Graeme (Allison), Wolfville, Stephen, Avonport, Lisa, Ottawa. He is also survived by brother David (Gladys), Avonport. Sisters Eudora (St. Claire) Patterson, Hantsport, Beta (Joseph) Jordan, Newtonville, Annie Bird, Hantsport, Dorothy (Allan) Lowthers, Kentville, Lolita Crosby, Avonport, 24 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his mother and father, and brother Charles. He worked as a bricklayer and he enjoyed sports. He coached Tug-of War and participated in Badminton and the Atlantic Canada Bicycle Rally from 1989 to 1995. He did some scuba diving and a stint in community theatre. He will be remembered for his perseverance, his appreciation of every kindness and the hope he maintained throughout his illness. Visitation was held 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, October 23 in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 568 Main Street, Wolfville, (902-542-2151). Funeral service washeld 2 p.m., Tuesday, October 24 in the Avonport United Baptist Church, the Reverend Gail Whalen-Dunn officiated. A reception was held in the church hall, followed by the interment service in Lower Horton Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, or the Canadian Cancer Society. November 12 to November 18, 2006 continued M. Jean Rushton - 88, formerly of New Minas, Kings County, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2006 in the Wolfville Nursing Home. Born in Woodstock, New Brunswick, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Ara Lizetta (Tapley) Quigg. After graduation from Acadia University in 1943, Jean and her husband, Vin served in the Billtown Baptist Church. Together they served the Canadian Baptist Overseas Mission Board as missionaries in India for 20 years, between 1947-1967. Jean and Vin also served pastorates in New Ross, Canning, Lawrencetown and Bedford. Upon returning from India, Jean worked as a librarian at Glooscap Elementary and Cornwallis District High School in Canning. She was a member of the Women’s Missionary Society and the Social and Benevolent Society of Wolfville United Baptist Church. She was also a member of the University Women’s Club. Jean loved music and sang for over 35 years with the Acadia University Chorus. In tribute to her missionary service, auxiliaries in both Billtown and Bedford bear her name. She is survived by her son, Robert (Barbara), New Minas; two granddaughters, Christianne (Michael Caines), New York; Heather, Wolfville; a sister, Fay Lenehan, Woodstock, New Brunswick; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Reverend Vincent Rushton; a sister, Rubye; four brothers, Myrland, Eldon, Bill and Don. Visitation was held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2006 and from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, November 22, 2006 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, November 23, 2006 in the Wolfville United Baptist Church, Reverend Doctor Barry Morrison officiated. Burial took place in the Willowbank Cemetery, Wolfville. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Feed the Children Fund or to the M. November 12 to November 18, 2006 continued COMEAU, George Gregory – 59, Queen Street, Yarmouth, passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2006, in the VG Site, QEII, Halifax. Born March 4, 1947 in Yarmouth, he was a son of the late G. Henry and Pauline (Briggins) Comeau. He worked as a lobster fisherman. Greg also enjoyed sport fishing and hunting. Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Bernice (Steele) Comeau, as well as his sons, Troy (Julia) Comeau, Iqaluit, NU; Gregory (Crystal) Comeau, Yarmouth; Garnet (Rhonda) White, Carleton; grandchildren, Mary Pauline, Luke and Emma; sister, Katherine "Kay" (Bobby) Frost, Yarmouth. Visitation took place from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2006, with prayers at 8 p.m., both in H.M. Huskilson's Funeral Home, 29 Albert St., Yarmouth. November 12 to November 18, 2006 continued Dorothy Marie Veinot - 84, Millville, Kings Co., passed away peacefully Monday, November 13, 2006, in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Millville, Kings Co., she was the daughter of the late Enos and Jessie (Orpin) Veno. Dorothy worked at Scotian Gold in Aylesford and Coldbrook for many years and then went on to work as a Nurses Aid at the Waterville Hospital, from which she retired in 1982. She enjoyed crocheting, playing scrabble, trips to Cape Breton and vacation trips with family and friends. Dorothy also loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as her little kitten, Cali. Dorothy is survived by son, Gerald (Jackie Rousseau), Millville; daughter, Elsie (Emmet) Young, South Bar, Sydney; grandchildren, Debbie (Vince) MacLean, Natasha Rousseau, Shannon Watton; great-grandchildren, Dakota and Santisha. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Clifford "Manny" Veinot; daughter in infancy, Alice Marie; sister, Jennie Lutz; grandson, Wyman Young; great-grandson, Shawn Rousseau; stepfather, John "Jack" Sabean. November 12 to November 18, 2006 continued CALDWELL, Frederick Henry “Fred�, age 60, of Martock, Hants County, formerly of Three Mile Plains, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 18, 2006, in the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, surrounded by his family and friends, after a very short battle with cancer. Born on June 21, 1946, in Windsor, Hants County, he was a son of the late Harold and Marie (Whitehead) Caldwell. Fred worked with J. W. Mason & Sons, Apple Wholesalers, for 19 years until his illness. He formerly worked at McClare’s Lumber Mill and Fundy Gypsum Company. He enjoyed friends and family, the woods, drives, flea markets, but most of all, his grandchildren, who he spent a lot of his time with. He is survived by his daughter, Deanna (Scott Murray) Martock, with whom he resided with; sons, James “Duke� (Sasha) Knowles, Cambridge, Ontario; Chris (Nancy Brown), Three Mile Plains; grandchildren, Cody, Tyler, Gabriella, Connor and Kyle, as well as Tyrese, who is to be born any day now; brothers, Bruce Caldwell (Betty MacLeod), Three Mile Plains; former wife, Darlene (Art Shaw), Hantsport; as well as extended family and friends. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a stillborn son, Paul; sister-in-law, Alice Caldwell. She was predeceased by her husband, Oliver Kenneth Church (2000); sisters, Ada Church, Gladys Williams, Hilda DeMone, Hazel Armstrong and Greta Weisinger; brothers, Bill and Harvey Collicutt.
