World champion logroller honoured by Ice Dogs
Two-time world champion logroller Darren Hudson has been welcomed home.
A tribute to the Barrington resident was held Nov. 18 at the Barrington Municipal Arena, where Hudson was presented with a gift by the Municipality of Barrington and made an honourary player of the Barrington Sea Star Ice Dogs.
Hudson, who captured his second world logrolling championship this past summer, is home until January.
“You’ve got to have two to prove the first one wasn’t a fluke, said Hudson. “I’m thankful for everyone I get. You have to take it one cut at a time.
Since turning professional 11 years ago while in Grade 11 at Barrington Municipal High School, Hudson has accumulated numerous titles in lumberjack competitions in Canada, the United States and down under.
Besides competing, he also performs at lumberjack shows in British Columbia and Germany.
To maintain his edge, Hudson never stops. “You’ve got to keep in good shape, he said.
“Since I’ve been home, I’ve been doing Christmas trees for Jackson Lore. I have until Christmas to go lobstering, then in January I’m going to New Zealand to do some chopping and log rolling down there.
Hudson said he will be back in Nova Scotia next summer when Liverpool hosts the Outdoor Life Networks’ East vs. West Challenge.
In the meantime, “I’m just happy to be home, said Hudson.
