Our vets are heroes!
Letter to The Advertiser
To the Editor:

Having read the letter by Bob Ritchie in the Nov. 7, 2006 edition of The Advertiser, I would suggest that Mr. Ritchie does not read a newspaper or watch TV or he would understand what a military member does for a living.

And by that person choosing the military life, it keeps people like Mr. Ritchie from a call-up and a life in the trenches.

I served our country for 38 years and understood full well that I could be called upon to defend myself and defend the commitment of our country.

The men and women of today's military never joined with their eyes closed. I’m sure that they all understand what is expected of their chosen careers.

For Mr. Ritchie to suggest that these brave men and women are not heroes is out of touch with reality. They are doing a service to our country and to Mr. Ritchie, who can enjoy his good life in his safe little house here in our Valley.

People do die in a war zone: men, women and, God forgive, children as well.

So wake up and be thankful for the HEROES who serve us in the military far from their homes.
