Seniors apartments to be constructed in Bridgewater
Seniors of Queens and Lunenburg Counties are getting a new place to live.

The new apartment complex called Drumlin Hills will be placed on the vacant land along Glen Allan Drive in Bridgewater.

The assisted living complex will be for seniors 55 years of age and older. The building will contain 96 apartments, and as part of the rental agreement, packages of services, laundry, meals and housekeeping can be purchased as well.

24 units will be solely for seniors who need meals prepared, laundry done and rooms cleaned.

Each unit will have a refrigerator, stove, dishwasher and extra space for a tenant to bring in their own washer and dryer. Units will also have security buzzers and grab bar hardware in the bathrooms.

The Lunenburg-Queens Baptist Committee has been working with the Atlantic Baptist Senior Citizen’s Homes Inc. to get this project underway.

The Atlantic Baptist Senior Citizen’s Homes Inc. is a non-profit registered charity started in 1970 and has a number of senior’s apartments and nursing home facilities in Atlantic Canada.

The two groups will share eight acres of land along Glen Allan Drive. A new Baptist Church will also be built and the senior’s apartment building will stand beyond the church.

Lunenburg-Queens Baptist Committee chairman, Norman Hovland says construction for the apartments will begin in the spring of 2007.

In a presentation to the Bridgewater town council Hovland stated that over 100 seniors are currently interested in 72 apartments, with 25 others looking into the fully assisted living apartments. These individuals are from Queens and Lunenburg Counties as well as other parts of Nova Scotia.
