Smiles and an economic boost
Letter to the Yarmouth Vanguard
On the weekend of Oct. 13 to 15, Yarmouth Seaside Red Hatters hosted a second gathering of Red Hatters from around the province (with a few from Ontario) at Rodd Grand Hotel. During opening ceremonies Friday evening Mayor Charles Crosby and an RCMP officer in red serge escorted two ladies from the organizing committee to their table for a lovely sit down dinner.
The dinner was followed by a “Calendar Girls fashion show, the performance of a belly dancer and musical entertainment by local trio “Chimera accompanied by Paul Saulnier on keyboards.
On Saturday there was a scrapbooking session, a bingo, a scarf tying video, a walk about town with “Uncle Jeb and a bus tour for those who wished to go to Cape Forchu. Many ladies chose to shop and dine Saturday noon at local businesses.
Saturday evening participants enjoyed a delightful buffet dinner, beautifully presented, followed by a performance by “Les Des Acadie, showing in music and dance the story of the Deportation of the Acadians.
In March 2003 Yarmouth Seaside Red Hatters picked up the Red Hat Society ‘ball’ and have been running with it ever since.
Probably to some people Red Hatting is “old hat but to us it’s “red hat and “Red Hatters Matter! We have brought smiles to many faces and many dollars to the local economy.
I would like to thank the many people who gave of their time, their talent and supported us with door
prizes, etc. to help make the event such a memorable occasion for 130 ladies in red hats.
Dorothy Vallillee,
