Couple jump from burning home in Port LaTour
An unidentified couple escaped without major injury after jumping from an upstairs window to flee their burning home in Upper Port LaTour, Shelburne Co. last night (Oct. 25).
The Port LaTour Fire Department was called to the scene at 1:15 a.m.
“It was getting to the point where it was breaking out through the back of the house when fire fighters arrived on the scene, said Port LaTour fire chief Blanchard Chetwynd.
“After that it didn’t take long to break through it all.
Assisted by Barrington and Port Clyde departments, with backup from Island and Barrington Passage, firefighters were on the scene for six hours, said Chetwynd.
Paramedics also responded in case of injury. Chetwynd said one of the residents was treated for asthma while the other appeared fine.
