Olympic flame comes to Middleton

Hundreds line streets; take home pictures by the thousands

Hundreds of people lined the streets of Middleton Friday afternoon as four Olympic torch bearers walked, jogged, and ran down the town's main street.

The large crowd yelled, cheered, and used noisemakers as runners approached, and surrounded hometown hero Brent McNeil as he finished his run and helped organizers transfer the flame back to a lantern.

A few minutes later, back at the Royal Bank where McNeil is manager, he posed for picture after picture as spectators wanted to have digital photos of themselves with the runner and the torch.

If there were 2000 spectators, there were 1000 cameras or cell phones held high as runners passed, making it possibly the most recorded event in Middleton's history.
