Many in Windsor are wondering if the Cedar Street store has been uprooted.

Last week, signs lining the at Hawboldt’s Furniture & Appliances windows claiming: “Warning! Furniture savings are here … until 2011!” But all was quiet and six printed signs on a locked door read: “Closed for Inventory.”

A source says the company has closed and approximately a dozen employees are out of work.

There was no answer at Hawboldt’s phone number. Despite a number of attempts to reach management and staff, no other information was available at press time.

Hawboldt’s was first established in 1955, at the corner of Gerrish and Grey Streets. Over the years, the business expanded to be a popular destination for home furnishings and appliances.
