No change needed on Olf Falls Road

Council decided on Oct. 19 no further action is warranted on Old Falls Rd. traffic issues.

Two issues were raised to the Region about the road. The first was the increased traffic because of people using the street as a shortcut to avoid the traffic lights on Bristol Ave.

The second was the speed of the vehicles on the road was too fast for the narrow width and shortness of the road.

The road has signs advertising a lower speed limit of 30km/h, a slow sign, sharp turn sign, and one for the blind knoll at the top of the road. It is also posted at the beginning the street is for local residents only.

A speed radar test was done on the street in early Oct. to study the issue. Of the 34 vehicles that went up the street in one day, only one was above the speed limit, travelling at 42 km/h.

Municipal Clerk Chris McNeill thoroughly studied the traffic on the road, and recommended no further action be taken.

“The ultimate solution would be to make it a cul de sac, which would require the acquisition of property,” said Mayor John Leefe.

The Region of Queens explored that possibility in the past, however the owner of property at the end of Old Falls Rd. did not want to sell. There was also some opposition from the residents of the neighborhood to turn it into a dead end street.
