Dyslexic author to lecture in Wolfville

Ronald D. Davis, author of The Gift of Dyslexia, will visit Wolfville September 17 at Acadia’s MacKeen Room. The stop is part of a North American lecture series by the head of Davis Dyslexia Association International.

Considered autistic, a “dummy” and “mentally retarded” as a child, Davis became a successful engineer, businessman and sculptor. He remained functionally illiterate until the age of 38, when he discovered a method that allowed him to stop the distorted perception he claims underlies dyslexia and learned to read.

According to Davis, confusion with symbols and abstract words cause a dyslexic’s perception to distort, resulting in transpositions, mistakes, fatigue and frustration while reading and writing. Davis and his wife, Alice, founded DDAI in 1995, training representatives all over the world to use Davis’ methods to help dyslexic students.

The event is hosted by Bernice Taylor of Imagine: A Solution for Dyslexia.
