Ipsos Reid Survey on Municipal Recreation and Physical Fitness
Nova Scotia Health Promotion and Protection recently invited the Region of Queens to participate in a nation-wide telephone survey entitled the Municipal Recreation and Physical Fitness Survey. The survey assesses overall physical activity in our municipality, how to encourage more physical activity and satisfaction rates with current municipal recreation services and programs. Municipalities across Canada are being surveyed. In Nova Scotia, a total of nine municipal surveys are being carried out involving a total of 15 municipal units. The survey will be conducted week nights between 4 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 3-9:30 p.m., Jan. 22 to Feb. 1. A total of 300 citizens from throughout the Region, aged 16 and over, will be surveyed and it takes approximately seven minutes to complete. The information gathered will be helpful to the Physical Activity Working Group in the development of a comprehensive physical activity strategy for the Region of Queens Municipality. If you receive a call asking you to participate in the Ipsos Reid Survey, please take the time to honestly answer the questions. Your input is important, and will help the Municipality make wise choices about how to best serve the needs of the community. If you have any questions regarding the survey, please do not hesitate to call Meaghan Smart at the Department of Recreation and Community Facilities at 354-5741.
Nominate your shining star volunteers!
Do you know someone who personifies the spirit of volunteerism? Someone who goes above and beyond to help others in the community, and makes life better for his/her fellow citizens by volunteering time, skills and energy? Recognize that contribution to our community by nominating them as "Representative Volunteer." The Region of Queens Municipality annually coordinates the Representative Volunteer Selection program, in which two individuals are chosen to represent Queens Co. at the Volunteer Day festivities coordinated by Recreation Nova Scotia and held in Halifax, on April 14. Queens has a strong volunteer community... look around you and acknowledge the people who enrich our lives! Select someone from your own organization, another community group, or someone who volunteers without belonging to a group - whoever you feel most represents volunteer spirit! Download a nomination form at
www.volunteer.queens.ca in the "News" section, or for more information call the Recreation Department at 354-5741. Nomination deadline: Feb. 27.
