Happy New Year everyone! Yes, 2009 is here, yet when I was a teenager it seemed so far away. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday full of time with family and friends with lots of laughter.

Our family, like many others these days, spent part of the holiday at the hockey rink. Branden had a tournament Dec. 26 and 27 and Dylan had his tournament Jan. 3. It is hectic at times to run for hockey, but it’s so fun to watch them play and cheer for them all. The good sportsmanship is nice to see; cheering for your son or daughter’s team and the opposing team too.

They are all working so hard to play their best and having a lot of fun, too. Wouldn’t it be nice if work was that much fun?

My niece, Christina Pick, and her family were down for the holidays visiting with my Dad and brother so it was definitely a busy house with two small children excited about Santa. I imagine there were a lot of families visiting over the holidays.

Happy birthday to my sister Lynn, who celebrated Jan. 2. Brad Schofield celebrated his birthday Jan. 6, Jim McInnis Jan. 7 and Cody Pick celebrated on the 8th.

Devin Pick celebrated Jan. 11, along with Ryan Oickle. Elaine Schofield will celebrate Jan. 15, Richard Pick Jan. 16 and Branden Schofield celebrates Jan. 17. Sandra Cudmore will celebrate her birthday Jan. 19. Gordon and Phyllis Young will celebrate their wedding anniversary Jan. 28.

It is definitely a busy month. Congratulations to everyone marking a special day.

The card parties are back on the regular Tuesday schedule. There were nine tables plus one five-handed table Jan. 6.

Helen Schofield won the ladies’ first prize, Patricia Bezanson took home second and ladies’ low went to Cassie Green.

For the men, Garnet Bezanson won the gents’ first prize. Second went to Laurie Garby and Bud Pinch took home the men’s low prize. Phillip Long won the door prize. The traveler went to Laurie Garby and Gary Farris won the 50/50.

A thank-you goes out to Marie Weir for donating the additional prizes for tonight. The card players presented Viola Pick with flowers and Karl Pick with a gift to say thank-you for all they do in running the card parties. Viola and Karl would like to say thank-you for the gifts and the thoughtfulness of everyone.

Viola Pick would like to extend a thank-you to everyone for the kind sympathy cards and words on the loss of her sister. On behalf of the community and my family, I would like to extend our deepest sympathies on your loss.

The rummage sale will take place again Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the White Rock Baptist Church. They are currently holding a sale - $1 for each bag of clothing purchased.

Come and see what the talk is about. If nothing else, it is a relaxing time out.

I think that is all for this week. I will try to get more information for you next week. Have a great week and stay warm.
