OLIVER, Raymond – 88, of Port George passed away, Friday, December 5, 2008 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Lucasville, NS, he was a son of the late James and Lena Oliver. He served with the Canadian Anti Tank Regiment in the Hochfeld – Rhine Valley area of Germany during the Second World War from 1939 to 1946. Following the war, he was employed with Canadian Cartage Systems Ltd. in Toronto for 28 years. Raymond was a member of Branch #59 Royal Canadian Legion Toronto as well as Branch #98 Royal Canadian Legion Kingston, NS. He is survived by his wife, the former Margaret Stevens-Holder; sons James (Laura) Oliver, Ajax, ON; Dennis (Sandra), Toronto, ON and grandchildren, Shelly, Marlo and Scott. He was predeceased by sister, Thelma Levy and brother, Carl. Cremation has taken place. A Royal Canadian Legion Tribute was held Monday, December 8, 2008 in the Middleton Funeral Home, conducted by Branch # 98 Kingston. A memorial service was held Tuesday, December 9, 2008 in the Middleton Funeral Home, Rev. Theresa Character officiated. By request, family flowers only. PARKER, Nellie Rubina — age 77, of St. Croix, Hants County, passed away Friday, December 5, 2008, in the Hants Community Hospital with her sons by her side. Nellie was born January 7, 1931, on the family farm in Cascumpec, Prince Edward Island, where she was the fifth of six children of the late Mathias Hamilton and Maud Eva (MacLean) Sweet. Her loves in life were her family, baking and animals, especially cats. Being a military wife she lived in various places, retiring with her husband to Nova Scotia. Surviving are her sons, Gary Jon Parker, St. Croix; Terry Wayne Parker, Halifax and Georgetown, P.E.I.; sisters, Jane Palmer, High Bank, Prince Edward Island; Anne Bowers, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island; and Ida (Lyle) McManus, Ellershouse; sister-in-law, Florence Buchanan, Roseneath, Prince Edward Island. She was predeceased by her husband, John Herbert Freemont Parker on November 30, 1999; sisters, Serena Catherine Wedlock; brother, John William Sweet. Nellie will also be missed by her feline friends, Chloe, Timbit, Toby, Moe, Mr. Peckford and McGinty. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor and there was no visitation by request. Funeral service was held 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 10, 2008 in the St. Croix United Church, St. Croix. Rev. Karen Pearce officiated. Interment was in the Ste. Croix Cemetery, St. Croix. McDORMAND, Albert Fielding, 91, of Westport, died Dec. 5, 2008, in Digby General Hospital. Memorial service Dec. 12 in Westport Cemetery.

DUNCANSON, Sandra Elayne - 63, Forest Glen, went to dance with the angels on December 6, 2008, in Meteghan River. Born in Yarmouth County on October 6, 1945, she was a daughter of the late George and Avis (Hanf) Bethune. Sandra was an extremely caring and selfless woman, having spent many years as a caregiver. Her children and grandchildren played a very important role in her life and she loved them dearly. She appreciated the simple things in life and found beauty in everything. Surviving are her former husband, Neil, Canaan; sons, Jay, Forest Glen; Sandy (Tara), Meteghan River; brothers, Gene (Doris) Bethune, Jack (Trudy) Bethune; sisters, Jennette (John) Prout, Joyce (Doug) Thibeau, Joan (Steve) Brown, Rose (Roy) Mathewson; nieces/sisters, Avis White and Kelly Bethune; grandchildren, Delaney Randall, Logan and Layne Duncanson. She was predeceased by brothers, Watson, and Ernest in infancy; sister, Eileen. Remains rested in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth. Visiting hours took place Monday, December 8 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny's Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service was held 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 9, in the chapel, Rev. A.D. "Bill" Newell and Rev. Bev Densmore officiated. Interment followed in Deerfield Cemetery. Memorial donations in memory of Sandra may be made to Canadian Cancer Society. SMELTZER, Clayton Amos – In loving memory of Clayton Amos Smeltzer. The family announces with sorrow his death, on December 4, 2008 at the age of 81. Loving husband, and friend of 61 years to Joyce. Beloved father to his children; David (wife Lori), St. Joseph’s Island; John (wife Mary), Pembroke; Terry (wife Carolle), Alban; Rick (wife Bev), Petawawa; Jeffery (predeceased); Stephen (wife Julie), Capreol and daughter Sandi of Sudbury. Loving grandfather to 12 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; brother to Ralph (predeceased) (Joan), Sudbury. Loving Uncle to many nieces and nephews. Clayton was born to Ralph and Hilda Smeltzer (predeceased) and raised in Bridgewater and Liverpool, Nova Scotia, moving to Sudbury in 1951 with his wife and young family. Clayton was a veteran of World War ll serving in the Merchant Navy. After moving to Sudbury, he drove a Greyhound bus until his employment with INCO, Copper Cliff Smelter, retiring after 29 years, in 1984. Clayton was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Br. #76, and a member of St. Mark’s United Church. Clayton loved and lived for his family. As long as he was with his family, it didn’t really matter where he was or what he was doing, just as long as they were together. Donations in Clayton’s memory to Camp Quality; OFAH Tackle Share (Ramako’s) or St. Mark’s United Church Memorial Fund would be appreciated. Cremation was at the Parklawn Crematorium. BUXTON, Deanna Marie - The passing of Deanna Marie Buxton of Saskatoon, and formerly of Biggar, occurred in the Royal University Hospital, Saskatoon, on November 30, 2008, at the age of 65 years. Deanna is survived by her loving husband, Bruce; children Dale (Trudy), Biggar SK, and their daughters, Jennifer Ashlie and Stephanie Dale, and her daughter Kate Iris; Norman (Marsha Dawn) of St. Albert AB and their children Sarah Madison and Jeremy Mathieson; mother Winnifred Jean Rice of Annapolis Royal, NS; brother Paul (Carolyn) Rice and sister Marilyn (Reg) House, and several nieces and nephews. Deanna was predeceased by grandson Stewart Tebb Buxton (July 2000); father Stewart Rice (May 1992) and infant brother Norman Rice (1944). Funeral services were held at Biggar United Church on Thursday, December 4, 2008 at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Rev. Jane Gallagher. Interment will follow in the Lenny Cemetery, Perdue, Sask. Memorial donations in Deanna's memory may be directed to the Saskatoon Cancer Clinic or the charity of one's choice.
