Community Christmas Trees
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas… everywhere you go in the Region of Queens Municipality! People from throughout Queens have worked together to decorate community Christmas trees for the annual Community Christmas Tree Contest sponsored by the Region’s Recreation & Community Facilities Department. Many communities are taking part in the annual event, showing unmistakable creativity, community cooperation and the spirit of Christmas. Residents are encouraged to take a tour of the trees, and take in the cooperative efforts in each community. Traveling throughout the Region, viewing the beautiful trees, decorations and the pretty lights is a great way to get in the holiday mood! The level of community involvement from throughout Queens was overwhelming, with participation from all corners of the Region. Trees have been decorated in Port Joli (at the Port Joli Community Hall), East Port L'Hebert (on the corner of Main and East Side Road), Hunts Point (at the Hunts Point Community Hall), Brooklyn (at the Brooklyn Community Hall), Beach Meadows (at the Seaside Recreation Centre), Port Medway (at the corner of Port Medway Road and Commercial St.), Kempt (at the corner of Hwy. #8 and Kempt Rd.), North Brookfield (at North Brookfield Corner) and at the North Queens Nursing Home (in Caledonia), with more trees expected to be added prior to the deadline for judging (Dec. 5) - for a complete list, call the Recreation Dept. at 354-5741. Many of the trees in the competition feature handmade ornaments, created by community members, and a number of communities decorate their trees to reflect a theme; the effort put into this event is remarkable. The Region sends its congratulations to all community members involved for such impressive showings of community pride, creativity and Christmas spirit. Gather your family together and go to see some of the trees, showcasing the community pride throughout the Region!
