New nurse practitioner for Shelburne County
A new nurse practitioner will be providing primary health care services to residents of Shelburne County. Deana Hickey will replace Duana MacDonald who will now be practicing as a nurse practitioner in Tusket.
Hickey previously worked as a nurse practitioner in Newfoundland and Alberta, and is looking forward to serving patients in Shelburne County.
“Initially, the new nurse practitioner will see patients two days each week in both Barrington and Shelburne and one day a week in Lockeport,” said Jodi Ybarra, site manager of Roseway Hospital and manager of nurse practitioner services.
“We plan to re-evaluate this schedule on an on-going basis to make sure we are meeting the needs of the patients and communities we serve.”
When visiting the nurse practitioner, patients are asked to bring their health card as well as a list of all medications they are taking, including prescription and over-the-counter medications.
A nurse practitioner is a registered nurse with additional training who works in collaboration with a physician to provide primary health care services. Nurse practitioners can make a diagnosis; order and interpret screening and diagnostic tests; and they can recommend, prescribe and monitor the effectiveness of drugs and interventions. A nurse practitioner also provides health and wellness advice.
To book an appointment with the nurse practitioner at any location, Shelburne County residents are asked to call: 902-875-2321. Clinic hours are 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4:30 p.m.
