An elderly man died at the scene of a motor vehicle collision by Exit 8 near Hantsport on Highway 101 just before mid-day Nov.13. A transport truck crashed into the back of his passenger car.
RCMP Annapolis Valley Traffic Services commander Sgt. Rich Walkinshaw said that at 11:20 a.m. a 911 call reported a passenger car was performing a U-turn when a transport truck struck the car from behind as the transport truck and the passenger vehicle were both heading east during the time of the collision.
The transport truck driver was not injured but was distraught as a result of the collision, Walkinshaw said. “The 101 highway was closed for three hours between Exit 7 and 8A.”
Preliminary investigation suggests driver inattention as a contributing factor to the crash, Walkinshaw added. “The name of the deceased will not be released until next of kin have been notified.”
