Digby skater lands triple salchow in Dieppe meet
It was a new personal best for James Hazelton of Digby at the recent BMO Skate Canada Nova Scotia Sectionals.
Recognized as the Maritimes’ top skater in the pre-novice men’s category with a score of 72.86, the fifteen year old placed first in both long and short programs.
Held Nov. 7 to 9 in Dieppe, N.B., the competition gave skaters from N.S., PEI and N.B. the opportunity to compete, at one event, for their respective provincial titles.
In addition to placing at the head of his class, Hazellton successfully landed a triple salchow at the meet—his first in a competition.
Hazelton will skate at the Eastern Regionals in Mississauga, Ont. Dec. 3 and Dec. 4. The top skaters at that meet will progress to the Canadians and Junior Canadians Competitions to be held in 2009.
