October 26 to November 1, 2008 continued LeBLANC, Joseph Cleveland – 80, Yarmouth, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 1, 2008 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born May 1, 1928 in Plymouth, Yarmouth Co., he was a son of the late Barome and Alice (Muise) LeBlanc. Cleve worked as a fisherman for many years, and he was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 61, Yarmouth. At Cleve’s request, cremation took place and there was no visitation by request. A graveside memorial service will be held in the spring in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Yarmouth. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth.

October 26 to November 1, 2008 continued HOLDEN, June E. - The death of Eunice June Brown of Saint John, NB, wife of the late Andrew James Brown, occurred on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Liverpool, NS on November 27, 1922, June was the daughter of the late Charles P.P. Holden and Jean Dorothy (Drew) Holden. She was an executive member of IODE, in the Union Club, four seniors’ bridge clubs and active with the Meet and Greet Committee for visiting cruise ships. She also loved to knit and swim. June is survived by her son, Charles Andrew Brown (Patricia) of Chiliwack, BC; one daughter, Lynda (Derek) Anderson of Rosedale, BC; younger brother C. Peter Holden (Carol) of Carp, ON; eight grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. A very well attended service was held on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel in Saint John; interment near Dearest departed Jim in Ocean View Memorial Gardens.
October 26 to November 1, 2008 continued Josef “Joey” Antonick - 23, Halifax, formerly of New Minas and Aylesford, passed away suddenly as the result of a motor vehicle accident in Alberta, on Friday October 31, 2008. Born in Kentville, he was a son of John Robert “Bob” Antonick, New Minas and Rebecca Ann “Becky” Ritchie, Aylesford. Joey was a graduate of West Kings District High School, Auburn and had also received his Electrical-Construction-Industrial Certificate at the N.S.C.C., Kingstec Campus, Kentville. He had been employed with Newman Electric, Halifax, prior to his recent move to Alberta. Joey played a “kickass” guitar and was a lead vocalist. His high school band was “Speedbump” , while his two most recent bands in Halifax were “Hillside” and “With Bated Breath”. His other passion was his sailboat, “Iskra”. Surviving are his father, Bob Antonick, New Minas; mother, Becky Ritchie, Aylesford; & step-dad, Arthur “Bub” Backman, Chester; brother, Jimmy Markey, Chester; sisters, Amy & Meg Antonick, New Minas; half-sisters, Robyn Antonick, Newfoundland; Christina Antonick, Saltspring Island, B.C.; Kindred Antonick, Vancouver, B.C.; step-brother, Brian Backman, Halifax; step-sisters, Nicolle Backman-Taylor, Shelburne; Kristal Backman, Halifax; grandparents, Arthur (Bev) Ritchie, Auburn; Betty Ritchie, Greenwood; Peter Antonick, Dartmouth; extra special aunt & uncle, Glenn & Barbara Smith, Dartmouth; numerous aunts, uncles & cousins, as well as a group of amazing friends. He was predeceased by grandmother, Peggy Antonick. There was no visitation. A service in celebration of Joey’s life, followed by a reception, took place 2 p.m. Saturday November 8, in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S., B0P 1E0, (902-538-9900). Mr. Kevin Carver officiated. October 26 to November 1, 2008 continued DUGAS-MacKINNON, Darlene Catherine – 41, of 112 Oak Park Dr., Benson, North Carolina, formerly of Yarmouth, passed away October 30, 2008. Born February 21 1967 in Yarmouth, NS, she was the daughter of Florence Dugas and the late “Fred” Joseph Dugas, of Comeau’s Hill, NS. Surviving in addition to her husband Dr. Chris MacKinnon and her mother are her loving children Daniel Dugas-MacKinnon, and Morgan Dugas-MacKinnon; step-daughters Samantha and Bethany; sisters Evelyn Hatfield, Joyce (Garf) Cole, Marion (Malcolm) Wallace, Lucy Dugas, Tina Dugas; and brothers Freeman (Gail) Dugas, and Allen (Darlene) Dugas, all of Yarmouth. Darlene will be missed by all her loving family and friends. A memorial service was held at St. Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Church, Comeau’s Hill, Wednesday, November 19 at 2:00 pm. There was no visitation, and cremation has already taken place. Memorial donations may be made to St. Gabriel’s Roman Catholic Church or Cemetery. October 26 to November 1, 2008 continued BACON, Frances Eleanor - 83, Windsor, passed away October 31, 2008, at the Hants Community Hospital. Born April 1, 1925, in Hants County, to the late Harry and Hazel (Butland) Lake, she attended school in Walton and at the age of 17 entered Nova Scotia Teachers’ College in Truro, graduating in 1943. She furthered her education at Dalhousie and Acadia universities. A love of learning and a passion for teaching infused her life. Frances taught in Colchester County and Hants County, retiring from Windsor Regional High School in 1990. She was active as a Brownie and Guide Leader, and a Division Commissioner for the Girl Guides of Canada. Outside the classroom, gardening provided her with both inspiration and relaxation. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth (Donald MacKinnon), Windsor; grandson, Paul (Deborah), Edmonton; sisters, Sheila Putnam, Dartmouth, Marjorie Maltus, Walton, and brother Carl (Heather), Kitchener; eight nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, James W. E. Bacon; brothers Laurie, Frank, Gerald and Harry. She wished to have a family graveside service, with burial beside her husband in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
