The Acadia Theatre Company will presents Eugene Ionesco’s Rhinoceros Nov. 12 to 15, 8 p.m.. with a matinee at 2 p.m. Nov. 15. All performances will take place in Lower Denton Theatre, Acadia University.

This production is directed by Michael Devine.

Ticket prices are $12 regular and $10 for students/ seniors, and may be purchased at the Box of Delights Bookstore in Wolfville or at the door. Tickets may be reserved by calling the reservation line at 585-1766.

Music at Acadia

Broadway music is on stage at Denton Hall. Director Paula Rockwell has scheduled an 8 p.m. concert for Nov. 14 and a 3 p.m. matinee the following day, Nov. 15.

Then, Sunday, classical guitarist Emma Rush will perform at 3 p.m. in the Manning Chapel. Tickets are $12 for adults.

Hear Rossini

The Acadia Performing Arts Series presents The Barber of Seville by Gioachino Rossini at the Festival Theatre in Wolfville Nov. 15 at 8 p.m. The opera is a production of Jeunesses Musicales of Canada as part of the Desjardins Concerts 2008-2009.

Art cards

Saturdays coming up, Nov.15 and 22, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., as part of the community programming and outreach initiatives of the Acadia University Art Gallery; card making workshops are planned.

Come and visit the current exhibition, and then learn how to design, print and make your own holiday card. All ages welcome and materials are provided.

On screen

Due to a schedule change, Fundy Films will screen Frozen River Nov. 16, 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Near a border crossing on the Mohawk reservation between N.Y. and Québec, two single mothers in desperate circumstances are drawn to smuggling across the frozen St. Lawrence. A complex portrait of people struggling to find their ethical bearings in a harsh, unforgiving and corrupt world. This film won a Grand Prize at the Sundance Festival this year. Frozen River screens at the Al Whittle Theatre, Wolfville.

November 19, Fundy Film screens Watchmaker (a N.S. filmmaker short) with ‘Tis Autumn: The Search for Jackie Paris at 7 p.m. Christopher Ball’s mesmerizing music animation opens and the feature explores Jackie Paris (1926-2004), the great jazz voice you’ve never heard. It will screen at the Al Whittle Theatre, Wolfville, 7 p.m.

Sunday Music Concert

The Acadia University Alumni-sponsored classical chamber music concert series, Sunday Music in the Garden Room, presents the third of its 2008-2009 season of free Sunday afternoon concerts Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. in the Garden Room of Irving Centre in Wolfville.

Pianist Darrett Zusko, currently on the Debut Atlantic Tour, is said to be one of today’s most electrifying young concert artists. His Garden Room programme includes works by Scarlatti, Beethoven, Chopin, Morawetz, Granados and Bartok.

Sunday Music in the Garden Room’s fourth concert of the fall term will be Dec. 14. This will feature all three of Johannes Brahms’s sonatas for violin and piano performed by Symphony Nova Scotia’s Concertmaster, Robert Uchida and Halifax pianist Peter Allen.

Von Trapps to visit

The von Trapp family singers are in Wolfville Nov. 17 for a concert. The great-grandchildren of Maria and Captain von Trapp are making their first visit to the Maritimes.

The four young performers, who range in age from 18 to 12, have recorded three CDs. Their home is in Montana.

Album sales currently exceed one million. They will perform at the Festival Theatre at 7 p.m. For ticket information, call 542-5500.

Greenwood Players’ play

The Greenwood Players present Charles Dicken’s “A Christmas Carol” from November 18 to 22 at the AVM Morfee Centre. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. each night.

Tickets are $8 and are now on sale at Pharmasave locations in Kingston and Middleton and at the Greenwood Military Family Resource Centre. A portion of proceeds will be donated to the GMFRC.

Trio presenting

Harvest Gallery in Wolfville is presenting Jeanne Aisthorpe-Smith, painter of rural landscapes, who will lead in an exploration of art technique with Tuesday workshops Nov. 18 and 25.

Her sessions for adults will explore drawing, colour theory and painting from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Book talk at the Berwick Library

Saturday, Nov. 22, at 3 pm; Grafton author Thomas Schultze shares highlights, insights and images of his recently published work about 1800s painter Frances Anne Hopkins. All are welcome. For questions, please call 538-4030

Hear bluegrass

The Spinney Brothers are launching a bunch of new material, including a new single “I Pray to God;” at the fifth annual Bluegrass in the Valley concert at the Horton Performance Centre Nov. 22 at 7 p.m.

Special guest will be Ron Stewart of the Dan Tyminski Band and New Ground of Clare, N.S.

The band has performed frequently in the Maritimes this year, but they have also been to New York, Arizona and Texas; where they received a very favorable reception.

The spring concert for the Spinney Brothers sold out early. Tickets are available at CD Plus in New Minas and Music Stop on Dow Rd. in New Minas. Doors open at 6 p.m.



Fiddlestickers performing

Fiddler Samantha Robichaud from New Brunswick will be headlining at the Fiddlerstickers next concert in Wolfville Nov. 28, 7 p.m.

With over 200 awards at age 21, Robichaud is classed as one of Canada's best. With her Acadian roots, vivacious personality, high level of expertise and lively youthful presentation truly presents her as a Talented Canadian Ambassador.

She has just released her fifth album, “A New Stage,” and is busy touring North America and returning to China for her second Asia tour. She will be stopping in Wolfville to play at the Al Whittle Theatre en route.

The Fiddlestickers are presenting two new exciting numbers with dance arranged by Canadian composer Dean Marshall. Other guests are Wolfville new up and upcoming group, The Hodders, Dance Acadia and Kimberly Holmes.

Tickets, $14, are available at Music Stop and Just Us Coffee. All proceeds go to sending the Fiddlestickers to the Gaelic College for their March break study session.
