Mariners second loss during weekend slips team into second place in division
It wasn’t a productive weekend for the Yarmouth Mariners, who hosted two games at home, but lost both contests and slipped from first to second place in their Bent division.
The Mariners had gone into the weekend in first place, but the standings changed following their 4-3 loss to the Truro Bearcats Friday night and their 4-1 loss to the Woodstock Slammers Saturday.
As of Saturday night the Bearcats were in first place in the division with 29 points. The Mariners had 26 points, as did the Weeks Crushers. Mariners captain Jordan Scott remained at the top of the individual stats for the league with 35 points.
Although Yarmouth suffered a 4-1 loss on Nov. 8, Woodstock’s last two goals of the game were scored on the Mariners’ empty net during the final minute and a half. Yarmouth’s only goal of the game came in the first period, scored by Marco Desveaux and assisted by Graham Ferguson and Tyler Williams.
Dallas Ungurian was in nets.
Yarmouth’s next games are on the road with a Nov. 15 contest in Amherst and a Nov. 16 game in Dieppe.
