October 26 to November 1, 2008 PASK, Charles Anthony (Tony), January 19, 1958 - October 26, 2008, Shawnigan Lake, B.C. Always one for adventure, Tony went on the road at 16 leaving Shelburne, N.S., and crossing the country to fish off Prince Rupert. Returning to Nova Scotia, he worked odd jobs before joining the Navy. This launched a 25+ year career that allowed him to travel the world from Alaska to San Francisco, Japan and Dubai as well as three tours of the Persian Gulf, gathering a wealth of friends and stories along the way. Everything was fair game for discussion, from politics and philosophy to the Montreal Canadiens’ Stanley Cup chances or the New York Yankees’ pitching prospects. Retiring as Chief Petty Officer, Tony had more time to play golf, which he enjoyed more for the camaraderie than the score. Ever up for a good debate (or crib or Scrabble), he loved to entertain friends and family with his legendary pastas, spiced with wit and washed down with liberal amounts of Pask-made vino or Captain Morgan. Tony prized good conversation, good books and good food, but above all, his family: Danni, Alex, and Mitchell, as well as family and friends from the East to the West Coast who will never forget him. No service will be held at Tony’s request. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Cancer Society. A toast to Tony was held at 413 Viaduct Ave West, Victoria, Saturday, Nov. l.

October 26 to November 1, 2008 Robart, Rose M. – passed away suddenly at her home in Montreal on October 29, 2008. Born in Yarmouth on January 7, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Lendley Irving Robart and Mary Eileen (Tootie) Smith. Rose loved to write and spent all of her spare time writing in and on anything that was within her reach. From a young schoolgirl, she was constantly writing the stories and poems that were “cluttering her brain”, as she called it. She has written articles for several newspapers and magazines and several of her poems have been read on CBC Radio. Her incredible ability to put words to paper brought about her crowning glory when, in 1986, her children’s book “The Cake That Mack Ate” was published. She was interviewed by Belle Hatfield of the Vanguard in November of that year, which to Rose was, other than the publication of her book, one of her biggest achievements which she cherished until her death. Never in her wildest dreams had she ever imagined that she would be interviewed by a reporter from her hometown newspaper. In 2000, “The Cake That Mack Ate” was re-released as a classic and has been used in daycares and schools as a teaching aid and can still be found in libraries across Canada, the United States and in England. Rose’s passion for the English language and her incessant writing inspired and humbled us all. She tutored English to several students in the Montreal area who garnered exceptional marks for their newfound grasp of the English language. Several of her short stories and poems can be found at the Yarmouth County Museum Archives. In ill-health for several years, Rose fought valiantly to do the everyday tasks that we all do so effortlessly and take for granted. Besides her parents, Rose was pre-deceased by brother, Irving Jr., and sister, Alice (both of Boston) and brothers, Stanley and Murray (Yarmouth). She is survived by brother, Donald (Elaine Washington), Framingham, MA, sisters Doris (Fred Phillips), Montreal, Que., Bobbi (Colin Lawrence), Etobicoke, ON, Catherine (John Horack), Oshawa, ON, Sharon (Arthur Johnson), Yarmouth and ten nieces and five nephews. She was cremated November 4 in Montreal. There will be a spring burial in the Greenville Cemetery beside her parents as was her wish. Rose will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. We love you, Rose. Rest in Peace.
