N.S. premier taking a wait-and-see approach on lobster
Nova Scotia's premier says that while the province will do its part when it comes to the promotion of the lobster industry, the industry itself must take the lead on that issue.
"This is a shared responsibility," Premier Rodney MacDonald said last week. "Obviously it's private sector driven."
MacDonald said the province has been a willing partner when it comes to promoting the industry at trade shows, helping the industry access new markets and finding new marketing opportunities and would continue to do so.
With lobster continuing to go for a fraction of the price it has in the past, many people are anxious as the start of the season in this area fast approaches. The province has shown in the past a willingness to help industries beset by hard times, however MacDonald would not speculate on whether or not that would have to happen with the lobster industry.
"I don't want to get ahead of what the situation will be, what the price will be when the season opens," he said.
