October 19 to October 25, 2008 COHOON, Joy E. - 90, of Port Medway, Queens County, passed away peacefully in Queens General Hospital, Liverpool on October 19, 2008. Born in Eagle Head, Queens County, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lois Conrad. Joy was co-proprietor along with her late husband, John, of Cohoon’s General Store in Port Medway for many years. She was an active member of Holy Redeemer Anglican Church and a former member of the ACW. She enjoyed cards and mahjong as well as traveling. She is survived by her son Sheldon and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband John; sister Grace Morton and brother Harry. A graveside funeral service was held Wednesday, October 22, 2008 with Chaplain Donald Lawton in Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Liverpool. Donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society. October 19 to October 25, 2008 FREDERICKS, Ella Mae - 94, Nictaux, formerly of Torbrook West, Annapolis County, passed away Sunday, October 19, 2008 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born May 15, 1914, in Bloomington, Annapolis County, she was a daughter of the late Owen and Grace (Vidito) Veinot. Ella Mae lived her life giving to and doing for the people she loved. A tireless, strong yet gentle lady. In early years she worked for United Fruit Cold Storage; The Cannery and the Dry Cleaners, all in Middleton, besides helping her husband on the family farm for sixty years. She was a wonderful cook, liked to knit, sew, rug hook, crochet and play cards. Ella Mae was always ready for a good joke. Surviving are a son, Dallas (Alice), Torbrook West; daughters, Doreen Hiltz, Kingston, NS; Frances (Ralph) Shaw, Nictaux, who gave Mom tender, loving care for 5 ? years; Donna (Mervin) Boyd, Wilmot; LaVerne (Martie) Grant, Nictaux West; Diana (Eddy) Harvey, Dartmouth, NS; sisters, Jennie (Clarence) Smith, Hebbville, NS; Maxine Lupton, North Hills Nursing Home, Granville Ferry, NS; 20 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Willard; sons, James Robert; Roger Willard; daughter, Zelpha Marie Vidito; great grandson, Anthony Boyd; sisters, Elsie Pelton; Kathleen (Pelton) Elliott; brothers, Glendon (Dick); Stanley; Reginald (Reggie); Raymond and Cecil. Born in Lahave Island, she was a daughter of the late, Arthur and Cora (Bushen) Himmelman. Muriel was a homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother. She had a passion for walking, dogs and enjoyed collecting porcelain dolls. She is survived by sons Arthur (Dorothy) Cook, Greywood; Lloyd (Wendy) Cook, Lequille; daughters, Shirley (Frank) Taylor, Lequille; Maryanne (David) MacEachern, Dartmouth; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. October 19 to October 25, 2008 Garnet LeRoy Lloyd - 66, South Waterville, Kings Co., passed away Sunday October 19, 2008, at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, after a lengthy illness. Born in Berwick, he was a son of the late Merrill and Lenora (Schofield) Lloyd-Strong. Garnet loved to hunt, fish and play cards (45’s). He always was there for any one who needed help. Garnet was a former member of the Valley Search and Rescue. He worked as a carpenter most of his life. He loved to pick strawberries, blue berries & apples. Born in Liverpool, he was the son of Winston and Helen (Sarty) Huskins. Gary retired from Scotiabank as manager after 25 years. He also worked in the pro shop at the Liverpool Golf and Country Club and owned and operated along with his wife Jackie, the Hyway Market in Hunt’s Point. Gary enjoyed downhill skiing, curling, golfing, and going to his hunting camp. Surviving besides his parents are his wife Jacqueline (West); daughter Kimberley Anne (Craig) Hupman of White Point; son Derek Todd of Bedford; sister Cathy Fralic (Peter) of New Brunswick; brothers John (Mary) of Alberta and Kevin (Jen) of Summerville Centre and his granddaughter, the apple of his eye, Brittany Anne. October 19 to October 25, 2008 Marie Jane Illsley - The death of Marie Jane Illsley of Summerside, aged 88, occured on Monday, October 20, 2008, at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside. Born in New Town, Guysborough Co., NS, Marie was the daughter of the late Arthur and Emma (Cameron) Archibald. Marie is survived by a daughter Jane (Robert) Harris, Middleton, NS; son George (Barbara), Wilmot Valley, PEI; grandchildren Patricia, Carolyn and Jillian Bishop, Mark and Mitch Illsley; great-grandchildren Izaak, Lily and Frank; sisters Margaret Cleveland, Elsie (George) MacDonald, Violet (Scott) Fraser and Edna Fraser, all of Nova Scotia. Predeceased by her husband Allison Illsley and brothers Cecil, Henry and Hugh Archibald. During World War II she served in the RCAF (WD) at posts in Ontario. Later Marie graduated from Maritime Business College, Halifax, where she worked with the Department of Highways. Upon her marriage to Allison in 1949, they moved to their farm in Berwick, NS, a place Marie loved. Later when Allison began working with Ralston Purina of Canada they resided in Moncton, Truro, Sussex and lastly, Summerside, where they established the family business, Illsley’s Feed and Farm. Marie was a member of Trinity United Church, Summerside, and a Life Member of the United Church Women; she was also a member of the Summerside Lionettes. Resting at the Moase Funeral Home, Summerside, where funeral service was held Thursday, Oct. 23 at 1:30 p.m. Interment in the Berwick Cemetery, Berwick, N.S. October 19 to October 25, 2008 Roy Elliott McInnis – 66, of Auburn, Kings County, passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2008 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Gaspereau, he was a son of the late Roy and Edna (Schofield) McInnis. He had been employed with Larsen’s, Berwick for over 41 years, retiring in April of 2007. He enjoyed camping and was a member of the Good Samaritan RV Club. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and working on his truck. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, the former Janet Seaboyer; two daughters, Michelle (Wayne) Keddy, Heatherton; Colleen McInnis, Auburn; two sons, Martin (Susan), Aylesford; Steven (Natasha), Greenwood; four sisters, Christine (Lester) Cress, Round Hill; Rose (Gilbert) Harris, South Berwick; Linda (Elroy) Wood, Inglisville; Carleen (Leonard) Thompson, New Albany; a brother, Blaine (Christine), Branch LaHave; six grandchildren, Alexander, Anthony, Trevor, Trina, Jenna and Reanna; several nieces and nephews. October 19 to October 25, 2008 Virginia Faye “Ginnie” Hughes –70, of Avonport, Kings County, passed away on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Wolfville, she was a daughter of the late Roy and Florence (Millett) Croft. She had been employed with Sanisteam Laundry, Wolfville for many years and later worked with Vail’s Dry Cleaning, New Minas. She cared very much for her family and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She also babysat many children throughout the community. She is survived by her husband, Wilfred; four children, Salley (Graham) Selby, West Brooklyn; Darlene Hughes, Avonport; Derick, Avonport and Wayne (Melanie), Falmouth; two sisters, Gloria (Gordon) Schofield, White Rock and June Sharpe, Avonport; two brothers, Douglas, New Minas and Maynard, Wolfville Ridge; six grandchildren, Tyler, Emily and Lindsay Hughes, Jason and Bobby Selby, Jake Hughes; several nieces and nephews. October 19 to October 25, 2008 Lionel Carleton Huntley – 58, of New Minas, passed away Friday, October 24, 2008 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Kentville, he was a son of Thelma (Simpson) Huntley, New Minas and the late Carleton Huntley. Lionel was employed for several years by Dome Petroleum, Upper Lake Shipping, and Fundy Gypsum. Lionel then traveled to Ontario where he was employed as a chef before returning home due to health reasons. He was a kind and generous man who will be dearly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Andrea and granddaughter, Ulissia, Hamilton; his brothers, Roger (Ardythe), Cambridge; Blain (Charlene Collette), Kentville; Tony (Carly Russell), Victoria; his sisters, Patricia Harvie, New Minas; Pam (Larry Power), Sparwood; Nancy (Richard White), New Minas; Debbie Smith, Dartmouth; Angie Huntley-Therrien (Seb), Sparwood; several nieces and nephews. October 19 to October 25, 2008 AGOMBAR, Robert Henry - 1919-2008. Bob passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Dartmouth General Hospital October 25, 2008. Born in Fort William Ontario, he was the son of the late Edward George Agombar and Beatrice Marie Vince. Bob enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1940 and served his country throughout the Second World War, participating in the Battle of the Atlantic. After the war, he married his wife, the former Katherine Maude Day of Dartmouth, where he resided and began his civilian working life. His career path began as an employee of George H. Day Limited, culminating as Superintendent at Steed & Evans Limited. His tenure at Steed & Evans Ltd., included supervising specialized bridge constructions internationally throughout North and South America. Throughout his life, Bob was an avid athlete. Beginning as a Junior Hockey player in Fort William-Port Arthur, his sports participation continued throughout his ninetieth year as an enthusiastic bowler and horseshoe competitor. Bob was the founder of two longstanding Dartmouth bowling leagues, including the Church of the Holy Spirit League, and the Dartmouth Fire Department Bowling League. Bob joined the Dartmouth Volunteer Fire Department, retiring as the longest standing member, receiving that recognition at Province House by the Premier of Nova Scotia. One of Bob's greatest attributes was his loyalty and giving of his time to his many friends and particularly his family members. Bob is survived by daughter, Nancy Steele (Jim) Dartmouth and son, Ted (Barbara) Bridgetown; grandchildren, Cynthia Steele (Andreane), Jonathan Steele (Susan), Michael Steele (Vanessa), Geoffrey Agombar (Catherine), Timothy Agombar (Shelley), Philip Agombar (Alicia) and Robbie Agombar (Mel). Great grandchildren Maria Agombar, Katie Steele, James Steele, Shane L'Ecuyer-Steele and Colby Steele; sisters Bea Sinclair (Florida) and Maude Woodgate (Thunder Bay); brother Frank (Thunder Bay) and special companion Mary Burgwin. Bob was predeceased by his wife Katherine, brothers Ted, Art, Bert and Alex (Thunder Bay). Visitation was held Tuesday, October 28 at A. L Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth. October 19 to October 25, 2008 Harding, Steven Robert – 42, Langley, B.C. It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of a dear brother, grandson, nephew, uncle and cousin who died October 22 at home. Steven was born on October 30, 1965 to parents Edwin and Lorraine (Trefry) Harding in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia where he grew up. He lived with his beloved aunt, Mary Lou Harding, of Waterloo, Ontario while completing his education at St. Judes School and then Conestoga College where he became a welder, a trade he was very passionate about. Steven resided in western Canada since 1990 and spent two tears in Ottawa before moving to Langley. He was employed by the company, Tidy Tanks, at the time of his death. Special thanks to the people there who were like family to him. Steven was a very hard worker and spent many hours upgrading his education through numerous certification courses. He had his own welding business while in Salmo, B.C. and was also employed intermittently as a long distance trucker. Steven enjoyed nature, spending time with family and friends and working with his hands. He is survived by his sister Virginia (Mark) Boudreau, Yarmouth, brothers: William Harding, Ottawa, and Gregory (Rhonda) Harding, Edmonton, Alberta, nephew and niece Alex and Aislin Boudreau, Yarmouth; maternal grandmother Elizabeth Trefry, Yarmouth, and aunts, uncles and cousins in Nova Scotia, Ontario, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. He was predeceased by both of his parents, as well as paternal grandparents Edgar and Helen Harding, maternal grandfather Robert Trefry, uncle Malcolm Trefry and cousin Richard Trefry. Cremation has taken place. A private service will be held at a later date followed by interment of the ashes at Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery in Yarmouth. October 19 to October 25, 2008 BURRELL, Rollins - 1930-2008, of Toronto/Whitby and formally of Lequille, Nova Scotia passed away peacefully Thursday, October 23, 2008 at Lakeridge Health Hospital in Oshawa, ON. He was 78. Born in Lequille, Annapolis Co. NS; he was the only son of the late William and Mary (Mame) Burrell. Rollins was a prominent member of St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church in Toronto where he was a choir member and volunteered on several committees, will be missed by all. Rollins was retired from a Printing Firm where he worked for several years. He will be sadly missed by Edna, Raymond (Art), and Ethel of Lequille, Elizabeth, Kingston, ON, Gerald, James and Margaret of Kentville, Ina, Cornwallis Park, Bruce of Alberta, and several other cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his favourite Aunt Catherine Burrell and several Great Aunts and Uncles. He was cremated as per his wishes. A memorial service will be held at the St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church at 1080 Finch Ave., E, North York, ON, Saturday, November 15th at 11:00 am. Born in Halifax, he was a son of Jean (Singer) Kelly, Hillsvale, and the late Allen Kelly. Marshall was a truck driver and a heavy equipment operator for many years. Besides his mother, he is survived by sons Kevin (Deanna), Ellershouse; Randy, Newport Corner; sisters, Katheryn (Bob Elliott), Centre Rawdon; Patricia (Richard Slaunwhite), Terrance Bay; Debbie (Richard Meehan), Rawdon Gold Mines; as well as several nieces and nephews. Also surviving is former wife Gloria Maynard. He was predeceased by his father Allen Kelly and brother-in-law Wallace Wood. Cremation has taken place and no visitation by request. Born January 7,1922, in Melfort, Saskatchewan, he was the son of the late Stanley Jack and Edith Ethel (Bonner) Pyett. Frank joined the Royal Canadian Army when he was 17, having fought in the Second World War. After leaving the Army, he became a self-employed carpenter for many years. He was a member of the Mount Uniacke Branch No.165, Royal Canadian Legion. He is survived by his wife, the former Frances Ackroyd; stepdaughters, Karen Chatten, Keswick, Ontario; Wendy Joseph, Truro; Kathy (Geoff) Veinot, Sweets Corner, Hants County; stepson, George Harvie, Alberta; six step-grandchildren; brother, Stan, New Brunswick; sister, Joyce (Norman) Bilji, Hamilton, Ontario; nieces and nephews. October 19 to October 25, 2008 McDONALD, Lois Louise — age 64, of Windsor, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Friday, October 24, 2008, in the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Lois was born September 14, 1944, in Scotch Village, Hants County, and was a daughter of the late Douglas and Mary (MacKenzie) Dearman. Lois’ life was her family and for the last ten years she fought cancer, fighting hard to stay with her family. She was also known for her big heart. She is survived by her children, Cindy (Darrell) Barkhouse, Falmouth; Kevin (Heather) McDonald, Ontario; Keith McDonald, Niagara Falls, Ontario; Bonnie (Avard) O’Brien, Scotch Village; Trevor (Leah) McDonald, Windsor; special relative, Debbie Parker, Thunder Bay, Ontario; grandchildren, Jamie McDonald, Alicia McDonald, Amber Lynn Barkhouse, Gregory Barkhouse, Scott O’Brien, Kaitlin O’Brien, Ashley O’Brien, MacKenzie Louise Levy, Cassie McDonald, Zachery McDonald, Joseph McDonald and Jacob McDonald; great-granddaughter, Brianna McDonald; sisters, Edna (Jack) Parker, Sudbury, Ontario; Myrtle (Ray) Mantle, London, Ontario; Lottie (Terry) McGuire, Garlands Crossing; Mary Smith, Cogmagun, Hants County; brothers, William “Bub” (Marg) Dearman, Newport Corner; Kenneth (Gayle) Dearman, Alberta; many nieces and nephews. October 19 to October 25, 2008 BOUDREAU, Elizabeth M. – 94, Villa St. Joseph-du-Lac, Dayton, and formerly of Wedgeport, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 25, 2008, in the Villa. Born June 19, 1914, in Saint John, New Brunswick, she was the adoptive daughter of Jules V. and Elizabeth (Deveau) Pothier, of Upper Wedgeport. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her first husband and father of her children, Cyriac I. Boudreau (former Argyle Municipal Clerk from 1951 to 1976), as well as by her second husband, J. Chester Doucet, and by an adult granddaughter. Elizabeth was a devoted and affectionate mother and wife. She spared no effort, nor sacrifices, to raise her eight children and to support her husband and their father. She was also a kind and loving grandmother and great-grandmother. During her younger years, she loved traveling, dancing and walking, and after her children were no longer with her, she did volunteer work in the community. She will be sadly missed by her immediate and extended family and many friends alike. She was especially appreciated for her vitality, her quick wit and her sense of humor, which her debilitating sickness slowly eroded during her last years with us. Surviving are her children, Jules (Anne) Boudreau, Rockport, MA; Désiré (Philomène) Boudreau, Wedgeport; Billy (Dorothy) Boudreau, Oklahoma City, OK; Anne (Arthur) Pothier, Plymouth, NS; Gérald C. (Joanne) Boudreau, Île-à-Morris, NS; James Boudreau, Montréal, QC; Paulette Boudreau (Lorne Kelly), Ottawa, ON; Michel (Geneviève) Boudreau, Gatineau, QC. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. Visitation took place on Monday, from 2-4, and again from 7-9, with a prayer vigil at 8 PM, both in H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Wedgeport. The funeral mass was held at 2:00 PM, on Tuesday, October 28 from Saint Michael’s Catholic Church, Wedgeport, Father Wieslaw Papuga officiated, assisted by Msgr. Gerald LeBlanc. Cremation followed, with interment at a later date in St. Michael’s Parish Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Villa St. Joseph-du-Lac, or to a charity of your choice. Vernon was born May 15, 1960, in Windsor, Hants County, Nova Scotia, and was a son of Herman Swinamer and the late Doris (Swinamer) Hazel. Vernon worked in various positions at the Nova Scotia Textiles for over 25 years. He was a member of the Hants County Oxen Association and when well, he was an avid bowler. He is survived by his father, Herman, and by his sisters, Joy (Richard Begin), Three Mile Plains; Joanne (Dewey) Haley, Windsor; brother, Jimmy (Theresa) Hazel, Edson, Alberta; uncles, Raymond “Ben” Swinamer, Three Mile Plains; Freeman (Frances) Swinamer, Three Mile Plains; aunts, Dorothy Lantz, Kentville; Gail Bergman, Avondale; Doreen Bergman, Avondale; one niece and two nephews. Besides his mother, Doris (Swinamer) Hazel; he was predeceased by a brother, Stephen Hazel; niece, Ashley Henshaw. Born December 24, 1953, in Leyte, Phillipines, she was the daughter of the late Eutguiano and Crispina Gador. Lynn had studied in Manila Institution of Technology, was a Telegraphist, and had attended Teachers College, all in the Phillipines. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Windsor, a member of the Catholic Womens League, and was an avid worker and supporter of the church. Lynn immigrated to Canada with her husband, in September 1976. She was a stay at home mother, a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Jerone Elwood Cleveland; daughter, Leilani (Rick) Deveau, Montreal; sons, Lyndon Cleveland and Adrian Cleveland, both at home; granddaughter, Sophie Deveau; sister, Edna Gador, Phillipines; brother, Gabriel, Manila, Phillipines. Besides her parents, Eutquiano and Crispina Gador; Lynn, was predeceased by her sister, VicVic. October 19 to October 25, 2008 Perry Eugene Misner - 88, Waterville, Kings Co., formerly of Woodville, Kings Co., passed away Saturday October 25, 2008, in the Veteran’s Wing of Soldier’s Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Chipman Brook, Kings Co. he was a son of the late Clarence and Eva (Misner) Misner. Perry was a veteran of the Second World War, was a bombardier of the Royal Canadian Artillery and had been radar operator for five years during the war. Following the war he took a carpentry course in Windsor and had worked all of his life as a cabinet maker and finish carpenter. He also worked in carpentry with his brother, Wesley. Perry was an adherent of the Baptist Church. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Ethel M. (Doherty) Misner, Waterville; sons, Larry (Linda) Misner, Powell River, B.C.; Martin (Maple) Misner, Chilliwack, B.C.; grandsons, Ryan (Joni) Misner, Merritt, B.C.; Devin (Jahzel) Misner, Port Coquitlam, B.C.; great-grandson, Todd Misner, Merritt, B.C.; numerous nieces & nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Melvin, Marchant, LeRoy, Lindsay & Wesley Misner; sisters, Mabel “Mayme” Wheaton; Ruby Steele. In accordance to Perry’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there was no visitation. Royal Canadian Legion & Funeral Service took place 2 p.m. Saturday November 1, followed by a reception all in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S., B0P 1E0, (902-538-9900). Pastors Tim & Christina Bigelow officiated. Burial was in the Lakeview Cemetery, Lakeville, at a later date.
