Building a group for advocacy

People with a passion for hands-on community advocacy may be able to get their hands on a hammer - or at least someone’s woodpile or fall leaves.
A Berwick-based group, Faith in Action, invites anyone interested in service work to hear from Mel Early of Habitat for Humanity, Nov. 2 at 2:30 p.m. Faith in Action includes a group of people “with a feeling we want top do something,” originating from the Berwick United Church, says member Pat Gibson.
“With high fuel prices and winter coming, how are people going to heat their homes? Is housing here an issue? There isn’t a lot of subsidized housing.”
Whether the group launches into home-building, or finds odd jobs it can do to help people in the community stay healthy, cared for and connected with others; Gibson says the group is interested in poverty issues and advocacy.
“We’ll see who shows up, we’ll see what we can do.”
Everyone is welcome, whether they come from a faith or community service perspective.
