Kings fire reports - as of Oct. 17

As the Berwick and District Volunteer Fire Department looks ahead to a move this fall into its new fire hall, firefighters themselves are doing their part to fundraise for new and much-needed equipment. They are offering a glass brick, ecthed with the donors’ names, to be displayed in the new fire hall for every $100 donation. A car crash Oct. 17 on Brooklyn Street resulted in three of the vehicle’s five occupants being transported to the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre in Halifax with serious injuries. Kentville Fire Chief Shawn Ripley said firefighters were on the scene for about three hours following the crash, which occurred around 11:30 p.m. It took firefighters about an hour just to free the occupants from the wreckage. Alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Kentville responded to a motor vehicle collision in front of the municipal complex and law courts Oct. 17 around suppertime. Firefighters were called to help clean up oil and antifreeze spills.

Kentville firefighters responded to a smoke condition at the seniors’ complex on Oakdene Avenue Oct. 18. Alady left a pot on the stove, resulting in some smoke damage.

Kentville responded to a brush fire on Prospect Street Oct. 18. The fire was in contravention of the town’s outdoor burning bylaw. The brush came from land clearing in the area.

Kentville firefighters responded to a call about a cat stuck in a tree in North Alton Oct. 18.

Kentville responded to a brush fire on Scott Drive Oct. 22. The fire was smoking out people in nearby houses.

Wolfville Fire Chief Tim MacLeod said his department responded to a building alarm sounding on Main Street around noon Oct. 18.

Wolfville responded to a house fire on the Greenfield Road in Gaspereau Oct. 19 at 3:06 a.m. The New Minas, Greenwich, Port Williams and Hantsport fire departments responded in mutual aid. The house, destroyed in the blaze, was insured. The likely cause was careless use of candles.

Wolfville firefighters responded to a building alarm sounding on Main Street Oct. 22.

Canning firefighters responded to a fire alarm sounding on First Street in Canning Oct. 22. It turned out to be a false alarm.
