September 28 to October 4, 2008 continued McNEILLE, Donald Wallace “Scotty”-96, Ellershouse, Hants Co., passed away peacefully Friday, October 3, 2008, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born December 23, 1911, in Rutherglen, Glasgow, Scotland, he was a son of the late Donald S. and Annie (Warren) McNeille. Don immigrated to Nova Scotia in 1930 to the Dakyene Farm, Falmouth. He then went on to work as a Barber, then with the CNR railway and retired from Newport Corner Naval Radio Station as a H.P.M. engineer in 1976. He served in the R.C.A.F. and later in the R.C.N.V.R Second World War 1940-1945. Don was a 45-year member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Hants County Branch No. 009, Windsor. He loved fishing, gardening, hunting and sports, especially the Toronto Maple Leafs. Don was a member of the Windsor Community Choir and St. Louise Church Choir for many years. He was very active in the boy scout movement as a leader and District Commissioner for over 40 years. Don is survived by his wife of 66 years, the former Marion “Veta” (Watson); sons, Donald S. (Sandra) McNeille; Vondon McNeille; daughter-in-law, Kay O’Leary; grandchildren, Donald W. (Kim), Christine (Scott), Timothy (Joanna), Maurice, Candice (Craig), Jeffrey (Joanne), Bruce; great-grandchildren, Donald S., Daniel, Gavin, Amelia, William “Will”, Cody, Tristan, Rebecca and Jordon. He was predeceased by son, G. Maurice; brothers, Malcolm and Gordon; daughter-in-law, Leslie. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lohnes-DeMont Funeral Service, 419 Albert Street, Windsor (902-798-8317). There was no visitation by family request. The Royal Canadian Legion conducted a tribute service, followed by the funeral service all at 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 7 in St. Louise Union Church, Ellershouse, the Rev. Karen Pearce officiated. Interment will be held at a later date. A reception was held in the Ellershouse Community Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Don may be made to St. Louise Union Church, 16 Maple Ave., Ellershouse, NS, B0N 1L0 or a charity of one’s choice. September 28 to October 4, 2008 continued MARTIN, Frederick “Fred” Alexander — It is with the greatest of sadness that we announce the death of our Dad, Gramps, Grampie, Oldman, Puppy and Papa, who passed away Saturday, October 4, 2008, at home in Hants Border, Kings County, at the age of 76. Born February 15, 1932, in Windsor, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Mary Ann (Martin) Scott. Fred worked for over 10 years with the Town of Hantsport before retiring. He was a great sport and the biggest fan for his favorite team, the Hantsport Shamrocks. He loved his games, fishing at the lake with his old bud, Pean Crowell, his family and friends. He enjoyed working in his shop, making or fixing whatever he could, for anyone who needed something done. He was a great Dad and will be always loved and sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. We will miss all his remarks and silliness that made everyone laugh, smile or just look at him. Fred leaves behind, his sons, Fred Jr. (Beth), Kevin, and Murray Martin, all of Hantsport; daughter, Mary Ann Martin (Ken Carnell), Riverside; grandchildren, Lindsay and Hayley Martin; Jed Martin; Nicole, Amie and Margo Martin; and he was a grampie to, Bobbie-Joe Ward; great-grandchildren, Alex “Boomer” Collins and Victoria Collins; sister, Judy (Clyde) Dearman, Round Lake, Ontario; brother, Roddy (Paulette) Wallace, Hantsport; special aunt, Rachel (Colin) Scott, Windsor; several nieces and nephews. Besides his mother, he was predeceased by a brother, Donald Martin. Visitation was 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, October 6, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. Funeral service was 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2008, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. James Haughn officiated. Interment was at Riverbank Cemetery, Hantsport, followed by a reception at the Hants Border Community Hall. Born in Stoney Island, Cape Sable Island, she was a daughter of the late Douglas and Annie (Ross) Swim. She was a member of Evangel Assembly Church, Yarmouth, Women's Missionary Society, prayer group leader, lifetime member of TOPS, former employee of Villa St. Joseph du Lac. She was affectionately known to her grandchildren as Granny Go Go. She is survived by daughters, Constance Newell, British Columbia; Karen Stark of Yarmouth; Pam (Norbert) d'Entremont of West Pubnico; son, Basil of British Columbia; brother, Merle "Bud" of Yarmouth; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sisters, Vera, Phyllis, Gloria and Francelia; brothers, Danny and Sable; grandchildren, Mitzi and Mary. Remains rested in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth, where visiting hours were held Monday, October 6 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service was held Tuesday, October 7, at 2 p.m. in Evangel Assembly Church, Pastor Oral Stewart officiated. September 28 to October 4, 2008 continued Violet Carol (Jordan) Graham of Centreville, died suddenly yet peacefully at her daughter’s home in Kirkfield, Ont., on Oct. 3, 2008. Carol was the beloved wife of the late Henry ‘Bud’ Augustus Graham; cherished mother of Carolyn Joy (Chris) McCallister of Kirkfield, Ont., and predeceased son Bruce Douglas Graham; loved sister-in-law of James and Mable Graham of Little River, Emerson and Virginia Graham of Windsor, N.S., Beverley and Joan Graham of Revelstoke, B.C., and Bob and Kim Graham of Saint John, N.B.; and adored aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by parents Sarah and William Jordan, and first husband John L. Hicking and son William ‘Billie’ Hicking. Carol enjoyed life to its fullest and had countless friends and acquaintances from all age groups and many walks of life. We’ll all miss her smile and her generous nature. She treasured the little things that life gave as well as the warmth and company of friends and relatives. Always ready to have a dance or just sit and chat—whatever the day brought. Cremation took place Oct. 6 in Lindsay, Ont. The family will hold a memorial service in Digby in the warm days of spring. September 28 to October 4, 2008 continued KENDRICK, Alpheus Fulton. It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of our dad, Alpheus Fulton Kendrick in Veterans’ Place, Yarmouth, formerly of North East Point, Shelburne Co., on Wednesday, October 1, 2008. Born in Riverhead on July 28, 1925, he was a son of the late Joseph and Mary (Church) Kendrick. Alpheus was a veteran of the Second World War. He was employed as a truck driver for B.C. Packers, worked at carpentry, Canus Fisheries, G.M. Newell, and also as a commissionaire CFS Barrington. He is survived by sons, Arley (Isabel), Shag Harbour, Alpheus Jr., North East Point; daughter, Judy (Martin) Hopkins, North East Point; step-brothers, St. Clair (Rose) Hatfield, Calgary, Alta., Nelson (Joyce) Hatfield, Oshawa, Ontario; sisters, Helen (Everette) Lee, Newmarket, ON, Leora (Leonard) Tingley, Digby; grandchildren, Arley Jr., Kelly, Delbert, Allen, Jason, Michael, Ellsworth, Gidget; great grand-children, Christina, Nathan, Cassie; step-grandchildren, Julia, Emma, Wesley, Michaela, Mark; great great granddaughter, Tara Lynn. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Norma Townsend; brothers, Allan, Karl; step-brother, Ernest; sister, Vera; step-sister, Shirley. September 28 to October 4, 2008 continued Carl Delbert Strong - 72, Waterville, Kings Co., passed away Monday September 29, 2008, in the V.G. Site, Q.E. II, Halifax. Born in Berwick, he was the son of the late Wilfred and Marion (Pinch) Strong. Carl was a painter all of his working life and had been employed by Wylie Hazelwood, Stuart Johnstone and at 14 Wing Greenwood. He enjoyed playing cards. Surviving are his wife, Roseline (Eisnor) Strong; son, Tim (Shelly) Strong; granddaughters, Tamara & Taylor Strong; brother, Wilfred “Junior” (Polly) Strong; sisters, Irlene Hamilton; Jean (Len) Dotten; Shirley (Muck) Reading; Marg (Bill) Agovino; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Bud Strong; sister, Evelyn Anderson. There was no visitation. Funeral service for Carl took place 2 p.m. Sunday October 5, in the H.C. Lindsay Funeral Home, 192 Commercial St., Berwick, N.S., B0P 1E0 (902-538-9900). Mr. Stuart Johnstone officiated.
