Man charged with sexual assault consents to remaining in custody
A Halifax County man charged with sexual assault with a weapon, uttering threats and forcible confinement following a complaint of sexual assault against a woman in Yarmouth last Thursday night remains in custody.
Thirty-nine-year-old Winston Arthur Reddick of Hammonds Plains was arrested last Friday following a short foot chase by RCMP on the Hardscratch Road, which came after a warrant for his arrest had been issued by the court.
He appeared briefly in provincial court in Yarmouth on Tuesday but did not enter a plea, nor did a bail hearing take place. Instead the accused consented to remain in custody until his next court appearance, which is set for Tuesday, Oct. 21.
Last Thursday evening, Oct. 9, at approximately 11 p.m., the RCMP were contacted by a person who said they had been the victim of a sexual assault that had occurred early in the evening.
The victim was treated at the Yarmouth hospital and later released.
