There will be a harvest celebration of small business Oct. 18 at the Gaspereau Winery barn featuring Halifax-based comedian Andrew Albert.
The evening, sponsored by the Valley Women’s Business Network, starts at
6 p.m. with a viewing of silent auction items. A pork barbecue meal prepared by the Lamb family will begin at 7 p.m.
Jazz Generations will provide music and then Albert will entertain. This once-a-year fundraiser, says Shannon Read, provides bursaries for female business students from NSCC.
In addition, the funds raised help bring in guest speakers. Read said the association also plans workshops.
Albert got his comedy career started in 1998 on a dare at Yuk Yuks in Windsor, Ont. Much to his surprise it was an annual contest searching for the greatest Canadian amateur. While he didn’t win, he placed second.
Since then he has entertained audiences from Florida to B.C. with his tell-it-like-it-is style. Albert is also an accomplished sketch writer/performer as well as an actor both on the stage and silver screen.
He has performed twice at the Just for Laughs Festival and also appeared at the Boston Comedy Festival. His material can be heard on XM radio, as well as the CBC.
Albert makes a home in Halifax, where he has had continued success as a touring comic as well as an actor.
Ticket prices for the event are: members are $10 and non-members $20.
