Mariners top Lions
The Yarmouth Mariners (7-2-0-0) defeated the Halifax Lions (2-7-0-2) 6-4 Tuesday night in Halifax.
Lynden Proctor led the Mariners with 1 goal and 3 assists while Michael Best added 2 goals and 1 assist. Chad Locke led the Lions with 3 goals.
Jonathan McArthur opened the scoring at 3:21 to give the Lions an early 1-0 lead. Locke scored at 9:15 to extend the lead to 2-0. Locke (second goal of game) scored at 16:08 to increase the lead to 3-0. John Hubley scored at 17:15 to cut the lead to 3-1 after the first period. Best scored at 6:29 to move the Mariners to within a goal at 3-2. Proctor scored 30 seconds later at 6:59 to tie the game 3-3. Best (second goal of game) scored at 13:22 to give Yarmouth the lead at 4-3 after the second period. Davey Shea (game winner) scored at 3:08 to extend the Mariner lead to 5-3. Locke (third goal of game) scored at 9:40 to get the Lions to within a goal at 5-4 but that would be as close as they would get as Marco Desveaux rounded out the scoring at 17:04.
Yarmouth went 0 for 10 on the powerplay while Halifax went 0 for 7.
Justin Collier stopped 46 of 50 shots for the win while Daniel Stein stopped 40 of 46 shots in the loss.
