Green thumb bragging rights are up for grabs at two annual pumpkin and squash weigh-offs in Shelburne County this Saturday.
The annual Clark’s Harbour weigh-off will gets underway at 9:30 a.m. in the town hall parking lot.
Ribbons and prizes will be awarded in both adult and youth categories, as well as a new children's category- Pretty Pumpkin. The entry must be a field pumpkin. There is no entry fee.
In Shelburne, the pumpkin festivities get underway at 9 a.m. at a new venue this year, the King Street Timber Mart.
“I think it’s going to be a really good event,” said store manager Bob Sinden, adding the store is getting lots of help from the community in organizing the event, including volunteer help from the air cadets and the Roseway 4-H Club.
A multitude of activities are on tap, including face painting and games for children, a barbecue, and pumpkin carving contests, with children and adult categories. Artists will also be on hand to do some special pumpkin carvings, said.
The Shelburne pumpkin and squash weigh-off begins at 11:30 a.m., with prizes being awarded in both categories. A prize will also be given to the best new junior grower.
