Winbush makes seven recommendations to RCMP
Race relations expert Raymond Winbush and Harry Allen, hiphop activist and journalist, presented their findings on racism in policing Sept. 25.
That event, which concluded Dr. Winbush’s consultation in Digby, took place in Digby Elementary School’s cafeteria, and the room was filled. Those who came to listen–and to offer their own insights and comments–included adult and younger members of the African Nova Scotia community, Staff-Sgt. Phil Barrett and other RCMP officers, lawyers and law students, white educators, politicians and members of the media.
For the white people present there was information and comments that were jaw dropping.
The seven recommendations printed here is the condensed version–these are just the recommendations. The complete report–entitled ‘The Digby declaration on racism: seven recommendations for repairing the broken relationship between the RCMP and the Black community’–includes the background behind each of the recommendations, as well insight into the sources of problems in the community.
