Alice Maude Innis, 88, of Barton, passed away Sept. 22, 2008, in Digby General Hospital. Born on Aug. 12, 1920, in Bloomfield, Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of the late Hanford and Effie (Marr) Foster. She was a member of North Range Baptist Church and its organist for many years. She was employed with the Department of Social Services during which time she also taught night classes at Digby Regional High School. She was predeceased by her first husband, Reginald V. Andrews; brothers, Charles, Arthur; sister, Stella. Surviving are husband, Rev. Francis Innis, with whom she attended Atlantic Baptist College in Moncton, N.B. Upon completing Biblical studies there, both entered into full-time pastoral work together at Erb’s Cove, N.B., Kingston, N.B., Stoney Creek, N.B., Millville-Hainsville, N.B., and then Plympton, N.S., in 1980 where she was pianist for 28 years. Also surviving are sisters Ethel Shortliffe, Digby; Mrs. Ruby Fleet, Stouffville, Ont.; a daughter, Maxine (Ivan) Bain; stepdaughter, Elsa (Jeff) Shaver; stepsons, Rodney (Shirley) Innis and Allison (Debbie) Innis; granddaughters, Cheryl (Kevin) Orde and Melissa (Jamie) Land; step-granddaughters, Laualin and Kelly; step-grandsons, Andrew, Dana, Lee, Robert and Cameron; and great-grandchildren, Sharayah, Connor and Caydence and great-stepgrandchildren, Myia, Samuel, Kaitlin and Rodney. Frederick Ashler “Sonny” Comeau – 72, of Cambridge, Kings County, passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2008 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Marshalltown, Digby County, he was a son of the late Frederick James and Angeline Mae (Langdale) Comeau. He had been employed with the Canadian Armed Forces for 26 years and served with the RCHA throughout Canada, Germany and Cyprus. He was later employed with Michelin, Waterville, from where he retired. He was a member and lead singer of the band “Valley Thunder” and had a passion for bluegrass music. He enjoyed radio controlled aircraft as part of his work and as a hobby. He was especially proud that his great grandson, Tyler was born on his birthday. He is survived by three sons, Fred and Doug, both of Brandon, Manitoba; Glen, St. Margaret’s Bay; their mother, Linda Ettinger, Brandon; five sisters, Elaine (Paul) Rousseau, Aylesford; Audrey (Mike) Broderick, Mississauga, Ontario; Carol (Gerry) Goulet, Berwick; Barbara (Ken) Stratten, Cambridge; Virginia Comeau (Gord Canavan), British Columbia; three brothers, Doug (Nancy) and Frank (Marie), both of Cambridge; Kirk, British Columbia; four grandchildren, one great grandchild; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Joyce Ward. Cremation has taken place. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, September 25, 2008 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville where the funeral service followed by a reception was held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 26, 2008, Reverend Garnet Parker officiated. MAHER, Joseph Lorne “Joe”- 73, of Bridgetown, passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2008 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Joseph and Gertrude (Healey) Maher. Joe was a retired RCAF Aviation Technician. Gehan, Lillian (Toots) of Seaforth, Ontario, passed away at Stratford General Hospital on Wednesday, September 24, 2008, in her 84th year. She was the beloved wife of Bruce Gehan; dear mother of Robert and Deborah Gehan of Hensall and Patricia and Gerald Farrell of St. Thomas; loving grandmother of Patrick and Laura Gehan and Amanda and Ryan Farrell and will be remembered by sisters-in-law Elsie Southgate and Helen Southgate. She was predeceased by her parents William and Margaret (McLeod) Southgate and siblings Elizabeth (Robert) Johnston, Ted Southgate, Kenneth Southgate, Reginald (Mac) Southgate, Jim (Leonore) Southgate and Patricia (George) Troutbeck. CAMPBELL, Jean Irene (Lewis) – 74, of Middleton formerly of Mosher’s Corner passed away Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at home. Born in Middleton, she was a daughter of the late Sidney and Marjorie (Fitzrandolph) Foster. Jean was a former employee of Annavale Co-op, Middleton. She enjoyed cooking, quilting and gardening. She is survived by her second husband, Roy Campbell; sons, Gary, Whitehorse; Charles (Connie); Brian, both of Mosher’s Corner; Rodney, Westville, NS; Mark, Kingston, NS; Roger (Roseann), Saint John, NB, Dwight, Middleton; 16 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; adopted brother, Keith Rice, Dartmouth and a niece. She was predeceased by her first husband, Ronald Lewis. Roy David Ross – 79, Port Williams, passed away after a brief illness on Thursday, September 25, 2008. David was born on April 25, 1929 in Wolfville. He was the son of Roy and Arlene (Bishop) Ross. He is survived by his wife Heather Pineo Regan; sons John (Shirley), Dartmouth; Andrew (Gina), New Glasgow; daughter Rosemary (David) Hall, Gaspereau; stepsons Andrew Regan (Halifax); Jonathan Regan (Lima); and loving grandchildren James, Hannah, Ben, Amy, Rachel, Gordon, Evan, Morgan and Stephen. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife of 50 years Janet (Miller) and his sister Janice. David’s love of music carried him through a 30 year career as a producer for CBC Radio, and for many years he played bass in Don Warner’s Band. During his retirement he took up curling at the Wolfville Curling Club and was fortunate to have been part of an “eight ender”. He enjoyed playing bridge and having coffee with the boys. He was actively involved in the community, always willing to lend a hand. David will be remembered for his integrity, generosity and gentle humor. According to his wishes, his body has been donated to Dalhousie Medical Science. A memorial service was held Wednesday, October 1 at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Anglican Church in Wolfville. MITCHELL, Terry Anthony -- age 58, of Newport Station, Hants County, passed away Sunday, September 21, 2008, at the Royal Columbia Hospital, New Westminster, British Columbia. Born July 5, 1950, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Mary (Ryall) Mitchell. Chisholm, Ruth (nee Sweeny) passed away peacefully September 23, 2008 at the age of 75 years. God is now wrapping His loving arms around her. She was born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia on June 6, 1933. She was the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Vernon Sweeny, Yarmouth. Ruth is survived by her loving husband Duncan J. Chisholm, her adored 5 children: Marlene Limoges, Duncan V. Chisholm and his wife Donna, Kathy LeBlanc and husband Ed, Laura Clark and husband Michael, Sheila Chisholm and husband Dean Cidrof; precious grandchildren Bernard and Madonna Limoges, Vernon, Duncan Jr. and Valerie Chisholm, Melissa and Matthew Scott LeBlanc, and Natasha, Sabrina and James Cidrof; brothers Patrick, Robert, Richard, Kenneth Sweeny and sister Susan Black, as well as other nieces and nephews. Ruth was a wonderful caring mother who loved her family and made a difference in the lives she touched. She inspired us all as she faced life and her medical issues with strength, grace & humour. LeBLANC, O. Juliette passed away on Sept 23, 2008 in Harbourside Healthcare in Amesbury, Mass. Born Feb 5th 1921 in Eel Brook, she was the daughter of the late Leander and Adele Bourque. She was married for 46 years to Edmund LeBlanc. She is survived by her children Deanna (Claude) Bourque, Sluice Point, Virginia (Paul) D’entremont, Lr. West Pubnico, Wayne (Deidre) LeBlanc, Amesbury Mass., brother Desire (Gert) Bourque, Hamilton Ont. And son-in-law William Trickett, Fitchburg Mass. 10 grandchildren Nanette (Glen) Bourque, Monissa (Evan) Amirault, Lenora (Scott) Surette, Damon Paul D’Entremont, Laura Muise, Diana (Steve) Spaulding, Bill (Stephanie) Trickett, James, Dominic and Alexandra (twins) LeBlanc and 11 great-grandchildren; Alain & Jacob Bourque, Suzanne Boucher, Zachery and Elizabeth Spaulding, Miguel & Vincent Surette, Ashton and Hudson Muise, Audrey Trickett and Emily Amirault, (step great-granddaughter), as well as many nieces and nephews. JENNER, Muriel Pauline May - 88, Dartmouth. It is with deep regret that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Pauline, on September 24, 2008 in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Born May 8, 1920 in Chester Nova Scotia, she was the only child of the late Nellie M. (Bowers) and Charles M. Schupe. In 1973, Pauline, with her husband Jim, started Nova Coffee Service Limited and they were former owners and operators of Ocean View Cottages in Hunt’s Point. Pauline worked in her earlier years in Seldon’s Drugstore in Liverpool and as a dental assistant to Don Smith in Liverpool. For many years she was very active in the UCW and as a leader of CGIT in the United Church. Pauline also loved her antique business - “Paula’s Attic Treasures”. Pauline was a loving mother and mother-in-law to Sybil and Tom Hennebury, Raoul and Kathy Jenner, Greg and Roseanne Jenner, Gary and Karen Jenner and Kimberley-Anne Jenner. A darling grandmother to Krista and Bryan, Karen and Kevin, Eric and Deirdre, Scott and Nicole, Ashley, Adam, Ryan, Matthew, Andrew and Kristen. A proud great-grandmother of Tate and Devan Baker, Megan and Fiona Clancey, Michaela, Adeline, Gabriel and Luke Hennebury. She was predeceased by her husbands Gordon W. Hirtle and James R. Jenner. ZWICKER, Bertha Ruby - 80, Windsor, Hants Co., passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 24, 2008, in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. Born February 7, 1928, in Lower Northfield, Lunenburg Co., she was a daughter of the late Timothy and Charlotte (Corn) Oickle. Bertha was a member of the Salvation Army Church in Windsor. She was an avid card player and bowler and a former school bus driver for 22 years at McCluskey Transportation Services in Toronto. Bertha is survived by sons, Andrew (Sandra) Robinson, Toronto; Gary (Marilyn) Wentzell, Bridgewater; daughter, Marcia (Darwin) Ewart, Toronto; grandchildren, Anna and Sarah Wentzell; sister, Beatrice (Walter) Mailman, Toronto. She was predeceased by her first husband, Wilfred J. Robinson and companion, Chester Wentzell; brothers, Gordon, Clayton and Harold; sisters, Evelyn Oickle, Alma Slaunwhite, Lorena Naugler, Bernice Nauss, and Muriel Sarty. ROYAL, Peggy Lynn - 46, fulfilled her lifelong goal to officially accept her angel wings on September 25, 2008. Born in Yarmouth, she was the youngest daughter of the late Paul and Margaret (Dewey) Burton. She leaves behind her husband, Dale, whose untiring love, devotion and strength were a fitting match for Peggy's. Mourning her loss are daughters, Stephanie and Glenna, who were constantly at her side. She is survived by her sister, Janice (Bruce) Leblanc, whose mothering and support were ever-sure; loving sister, Norma (Lloyd) Marsden, and caring brothers, Scot (Meredith) Burton and Mark (Myrtle) Burton; and Ellen Burton. She loved and inspired nieces and nephews, Jill, Megan, Laura, Cheyenne, Erin, Colin, Devin, Alex, David, Sarah, Josh, Ben; adored great-niece, Madison; and welcomed the arrival of grandnephew, Lucas. She will be forever missed by a great number of very close friends, especially Beth, Monette, Janice, Elaine, Nola and Pam. Peggy was an extraordinary woman. Her faith was unwavering, her compassion for others limitless, her stamina and strength phenomenal. She had a no-nonsense approach to life ("It is what it is") and to God's plan. Her sense of humour always shone through, her love of Beatles music brightened her days. She was dedicated to her family, to her friends and to her work as an Assistant Unit Supervisor at Tidal View. Always community-minded, she was a devoted, long-time volunteer coach for the Yarmouth Y Whitecaps swim team. Many young competitive swimmers benefited from her belief in their ability to succeed. To inner strength, she added the physical, competing as a tri-athlete. In July 2008, she completed the Sheila Poole Run for Cancer. The family would like to thank the angels in Oncology and Radiology in Yarmouth and at the Dickson Centre; the tireless efforts and support of the nursing staff on the fourth floor of Yarmouth Regional Hospital; Dr. Sheila Leahey, Dr. Davies, Dr. Ridha and Dr. Morris of the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, for that final special procedure; the many close and supportive friends who provided both the shoulders to cry upon and the strength to see us through each day; those who sent prayers and wishes from afar. In honouring Peggy's wishes, cremation took place under the direction of Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth, with no visitation. A celebration of Peggy's life was held Saturday, September 27 at 2 p.m. at Yarmouth Wesleyan Church, Pastor Reg Thomas officiated. Janet Louise Cook – 61, Wolfville, lost her battle with cancer on Thursday, September 25, 2008 in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Janet grew up in Lower Branch, Lunenburg County and graduated from New Germany High School. She attended Mount Allison University where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree, with a diploma in Secretarial Science, in 1968. After the first of four summer workshops sponsored by the Department of Education, she taught two years at Gaspereau Valley Elementary School. Then she joined the staff of Wolfville Elementary School where she taught for the next 34 years until her retirement in 2004. Janet was dedicated to the children and to teaching and could often be found back at school in the evenings making sure everything was ready for the next day. She delighted in attending events in which her former students participated. Janet also loved working in her gardens, reading mystery novels, working on her new computer and having coffee with friends at Tim Horton's. She enjoyed travelling and was so proud of the fact that even after battling back from cancer the first time was able to walk across London to ride on the “London Eye”. Just last Christmas she travelled to Florida with friends. She will be missed by her cats, Mitty and Muffer. Very special to Janet were Lynn (Rob) Urquhart, Elk Point, Alberta and their children, Samantha, Micah, Casey Janet, Ryan and Robin, who all fondly referred to her as “Auntie Jan”. Lynn is the daughter of long time friends, Charles and Marina (Lutz) Hudson. Janet is survived by cousins, Bill (Hazel) Zinck, Cambridge, Kings County; and Mary (Eric) Davidson, Grand View Manor, Berwick, and many friends. Janet was predeceased by her parents, Emerson and Lucy (Fraser) Cook, and sister, Marsha. Cremation has taken place under the direction of White Family Funeral Home, Kentville and there was no visitation by request. A memorial service, followed by a reception, was held at Wolfville Baptist Church on Sunday, October 5 at 2:30 p.m. Burial will take at a later date in the Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. June Elizabeth Woitowetch – Wolfville, passed away September 25, 2008 in Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, Middleton. Born in Wolfville in 1930, she was the daughter of the late Haynes and Jean (MacIvor) Leitch. She was educated in Kentville, Halifax and Toronto. In November 1959 she married Walter Woitowetch and moved to Kitchener. In 1980 they returned to New Minas. She was active in volunteer work, expecially Meals on Wheels, and helping friends and neighbours who needed assistance or a sympathetic ear. She loved cats, especially Charlie. She will be dearly missed by her many friends and neighbours in Wolfville. She was predeceased by her parents, a brother who died in infancy and her husband. She is survived by an Aunt in the USA and several cousins. Cremation has taken place at Serenity Cremation and Funeral Specialists Inc., in Port Williams. Donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of choice.

LeBLANC, Stanley James - 65, South Ohio, Yarmouth Co., passed away September 27, 2008 in QEII Health Sciences Centre. Born in Yarmouth, he was a son of the late Stanley James and Lucy Leona (Muise) LeBlanc. Stan was retired, but worked in the satellite and electronics business for several years. Prior to that he was the General Manager of Motor Mart, where he worked for many years and is well remembered. Stan also owned the Esso Gas Station in downtown Yarmouth, where the Yarmouth Credit Union is now situated. He also grew up working downtown for his father's fish store, Blue Atlantic Seafoods, which was located where Pharmasave is today. Surviving are his wife, Gloria; sons, Michael (Shaunna Nickerson), Sandbeach; Stanley and his daughters, Savannah and Skotia of Darlings Lake; sisters, Joan LeBlanc, Halifax; Susan (Calvin) Ossinger, Halifax; Ann (Pierre) St. Pierre, Yarmouth. Remains rested in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Yarmouth, where visitation took place Tuesday, September 30 from 7-9 p.m. with prayers at 8 p.m. Funeral service was held Wednesday, October 1, at 2 p.m. in St. Ambrose Cathedral, Father John MacPherson officiated. THOMAS, Helen Louise – 73, passed away on Saturday, September 27, 2008, in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born on February 23, 1935 in Albert, NB, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Ola (Hueston) McKinley. Before she was married, Helen worked for Eaton’s in Moncton, and afterward was an ardent house-keeper who loved to cook, square-dance, and to travel, especially to bluegrass festivals. She will be deeply missed by her devoted husband of 48 years, Llewellyn; and their son Darryl (Tina Maillett) Thomas, Bell Neck; as well as her brother, Marvyn (Mabel) McKinley, Riverview, NB. Visitation took place on Sunday, from 2-4 and 7-9, followed by the funeral on Monday at 2:00 pm, Pastor Cindy Dunnett officiated, all in H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert St., Yarmouth. Clarke Allison Vaughan – 69, of Gaspereau, Kings County, passed away peacefully, Saturday, September 27, 2008 at home. Born on November 27, 1938 in Wolfville, he was a son of the late Kenneth and Alice (Pudsey) Vaughan. In his early years, he was employed with Avon Valley Canners, Port Williams for a number of years and later worked with Carey and Son Masonry and William Sweet Masonry, both in Avonport. He was a Course Marshall at the Ken-Wo Golf and Country Club and had been very active in various sports, including ball, hockey, bowling and his favourite of all time, golf. He is survived by his special friend, Fran Brison; daughters, Anna (Randy) Brown, Kentville; Juanita Wood (Donavan Methot), Coldbrook; Paula (Tyler) Davidson, North Alton; grandchildren, Josh Brown, Tara Brown and Coleton Wood; brothers, Arnie (Bonnie) and Alvin (Loretta), both of New Minas; Vance (Elaine), Fall River. He was predeceased by a brother, Dean. Cremation has taken place. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Monday, September 29, 2008 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2008, Reverend Robert Burbidge and Reverend Gary Manthorne officiated. Percy Oswald Bezanson – 98, of Blandford, Lunenburg County, formerly of Aaldersville, Lunenburg County, passed away Saturday, September 27, 2008 in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Aaldersville, he was a son of the late Elijah and Charlotte “Lottie” (Leopold) Bezanson. Percy owned and operated his own trucking business in Aaldersville for years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Percy was a member of St. James Anglican Church, Aaldersville and St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Blandford. He is survived by his wife, Nora (Jennings-Fleet); a daughter, Ruby (Vernon) Keddy, North Alton; two sons, Stanley, Forest Home and Garnet (Patsy), Kentville; seven grandchildren, Paul (Marisa) Bezanson, Valerie (Bill) Esford, Judy Mahe, Bruce (Carrie) Bezanson, Kevin (Loretta) Bezanson, Bonnie Keddy and Eric Keddy; 12 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; a sister, Hilda Bezanson Ivers, Port Williams; a step-daughter, Lorna MacLeod, Blandford; a step-son, Percy (Noreen) Fleet, Dartmouth; five step-grandchildren, Wanda Arsenault, Sheila MacLeod, Ronald MacLeod, Michael Fleet and Krista Fleet; five step great grandchildren and one step great great grandchild; a sister-in-law, Ruby Cotter, Berwick. He was predeceased by his first wife, Flora (Costley); a son Russell; a daughter-in-law, Margaret Rose; a great grandchild; a great great grandchild; two sisters, Bertha Reeves and Gracie Russell; a half-sister, Viola Reeves; three brothers, Edgar, Gordon and Basil; a half-brother, Norman. There was no visitation, by family request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 1, 2008 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Laura McCue officiated. Burial took place in the St. James Anglican Church Cemetery, Aaldersville. Family flowers only, by request.
