More than 100 people piled into the Hants Branch Royal Canadian Legion #9 building in Windsor Sept. 25 to watch Kings-Hants federal election candidates take part in The Hants Journal’s first electoral forum.

However, Conservative candidate Rosemary Segado took a pass on the event, citing a scheduling conflict.

Liberal incumbent Scott Brison said the forum promotes fair political debating that’s good for democracy because it gives politicians a chance to disagree without being disagreeable.

“You’re here tonight because you’re active citizens,” Brison said as he addressed the crowd in his closing remarks. “You’ve helped to form the direction of our government.

“But Prime Minister Harper’s candidate did not even respect you enough to come to work,” he added. “She didn’t show up to this debate. How can she expect your support?

“I’ve worked hard to be a good MP for you,” Brison added. “Your concerns have become my concerns. I have made a difference and I want to continue making a difference.”

Segado said she would have loved to attend, but was already scheduled to be at a town hall meeting in Shubenacadie. “I promised I would be there,” she said.

“I’m going to keep my promises to the people,” she said. “Also, if he (Brison) was so concerned about me not showing up for work then why has he missed most of the major votes in parliament for the last two years?” Segado added.

The last two paragraphs of this article should have been at the top if the reporting was to be considered unbiased! What an inappropriate piece this is! If the booking of this event was left to late as to miss a candidate due to a conflict of public events, it should have been rebooked for a workable date. To imply that the Conservative candidate willfully neglected the event is worse than inaccurate reporting and the responsibility for the misinformation rests with the reporter!

Scott Brison is to flip floppy for me. How do you change from one political background to another so easily, but don't think your supporters should get angry about it? One thing is for sure; if he were the Liberal leader he would have a better chance of seeing the Liberals in office instead Dion.
