Meeting

Sept. 30

The Eastern Woodland Metis Nation’s general meeting will be held at Branch 61 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Yarmouth Tuesday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m.

Live and Learn Series

Tuesdays

A program for persons living with the effects of stroke, heart attack, angina, TIA and those who are at risk for heart disease and stroke. Four two-hour group education sessions held one afternoon or evening each week Tuesdays: Oct. 7, Oct. 14, Oct. 21, 2-4 p.m. Yarmouth Regional Hospital, Digby General Hospital and Roseway Hospital. Sessions are broadcast through the Telehealth Network allowing for residents of Yarmouth, Shelburne, and Digby to participate. You must call to register as seating is limited. 902- 742-3542 ext 460.

Meat cribbage nights

Wednesdays

Meat cribbage nights are held at Club Lestantue Community Centre, Pinkneys Point every Wednesday beginning Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. Cost $8 includes loonie jar and one meat package.

Caregivers series

VON will offer a four- week series

Open mic

There will be an open mic with Blue Country at Le Club Acadian in SAR Friday, Oct. 3 at 8. Info: 902-648-2203.

Bottle drive

Oct. 4

On Oct. 4 starting at 10 a.m. the YCMHS travel club will be holding a bottle drive. Anyone with returnables to donate can call Cheryl Burchell at 902-742-7966. (If no answer leave a message.) Can pick up anytime after Sept. 30.

Pot luck supper

Oct. 4

There will be a potluck supper at Camp Peniel Oct. 4 at 5:30 at which each church is to bring in their total fundraising amounts and celebrate a summer of partnership in mission and ministry. Short program follows the supper.

Bean supper

Oct. 4

There will be bean supper at the South Ohio Community Centre on Saturday, Oct. 4, from 4:30 until 6 p.m. Adults: $7, children $4. Proceeds for Hillside Cemetery.

Pig roast

Oct. 4

Annual community pig roast

at the Deerfield fire hall

Saturday, Oct. 4,

Serving from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Takeouts will be available.

Adults $10 and includes veggies, dessert and drink.

ELF program

Oct. 3

Brazil Lake Wesleyan's ELF (Everyone Loves Fridays) program starts Friday, Oct. 3, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Program will be held the first Friday of every month this year for

children ages 4-12. Free. fun filled Friday night of snacks, games and crafts.

Parents are also welcome to stay and take part in the adult activities.

Caregiver sessions

October

VON Tri-County will offer a free four- week session entitled “VON Caregiver Education Series at the VON office, 55 Starrs Rd., in Yarmouth; Oct. 3, 10, 17 and 24. The sessions are two hours long. In this series you will gain practical information about family care giving. Sessions are open to anyone who cares for a loved one at home or in a long term care facility. Register no later than Sept. 22 by phoning the VON office at 902-742-4512 between 8:30 – 4:30.

SPCA fundraiser

A fundraising day for the Yarmouth SPCA will be held inside the South Centennial School, Forbes Street, Saturday, Oct. 4, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Rain or shine. Yard sale, bake sale, craft table, SPCA items and 2009 pet calendars.

Yard sale

Oct. 4

There will a yard sale to raise money for the maintenance of the Brenton Cemetery on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 9 a.m. at 920 Lake George Rd.

Memorial trail ride

Oct. 5

The Tracey Graves Memorial Trail Ride is being held Oct. 5, at 10 a.m. (rain date 19th). Again this year the ride begins at the Hebron Recreation Centre and proceeds along the Yarmouth trail south (old train tracks) to Yarmouth town, goes as far as West Nova Fuels then returns to Hebron. There will be a BBQ at the recreation grounds for the riders when they return. There is lots of parking for trailers. For more information contact Donna Himmelman, 902-742-8048.

will be held between 7-9 p.m., Monday, Oct. 6, in the library at the Drumlin Heights Consolidated School in Argyle.

There will be a fundraiser for Paul Fitzpatrick to cover chiropractic expenses (he has ASL) at the West Pubnico Legion hall (Branch 66) on Oct. 10 from 8 until 11 p.m. Live entertainment. Donations at the door.

The Nova Scotia Government Retired Employees Association, Region 10, will be meeting on Oct. 14 at 2 p.m. at the community room in Sobey's, Starrs Road, Yarmouth (note new location). Provincial president Bernie LaRusic and vice president Steve MacDonald will be in attendance, as well as a guest speaker.

Crime prevention expo

There will be a stampin’ up charity fundraiser at Camp Peniel on Oct. 25 from 9 until 4. $25, bring a bag lunch. Register by calling the camp: 902-649-2471.

BMO helping food bank

The BMO Bank of Montreal, 354 Main St., in downtown Yarmouth is accepting food and monetary donations for the Yarmouth food bank until Thanksgiving. Anyone wishing to make a donation can drop by the bank to do so.



Hall of fame hours change

Tuesdays

The Baby and Me peer support group meets Tuesday mornings, 10 - 11:30, at Yarmouth Superstore’s community room. All infants with their parents and/or grandparents, as well as pregnant women, are welcome. Peer breastfeeding support is also available. Further info: 902-742-7141.
