The long promised manufacturing plant for Yarmouth is now a reality.
The news, which broke last week, was made official at a press conference Monday morning at the Yarmouth airport
As expected, Xperion, a company from Germany, announced that they will construct a factory at the Yarmouth airport to make composite parts for aircrafts.
Mark Erath, senior vice-president of market development and strategy for Xperion, said the company decided to set up in Yarmouth because of its close proximity to the American market and because they had direct access to the airport's runway.
Construction on the plant is to begin immediately, with concrete being poured before the first frost.
The five-year outlook for the Yarmouth operation calls for 15 jobs when the plant opens. Officials involved with the deal say there is the potential to grow to 200 jobs within five years.
Erath said the nature of the industry and the parts they will be manufacturing is that this project will be long-term. Training for the manufacturing jobs will take place at Burridge Campus and Erath said they hope to find their employees from within the community.
