Sport Swappers Wildcats fall to 1-4

The Valley Sport Swappers Wildcats fell to 1-4 on the season with three losses over the past week, two of them at home.
In their home opener Saturday, Sept. 20, the Wildcats dropped an 8-3 decision to the visiting Halifax McDonalds. Halifax led 3-2 after one period and 5-2 after 40 minutes.
Jake Bullen and Justin Belanger had two goals each to lead the McDonalds. Shayne Sullivan, Mathew Pace and Kayleb Lazaric had the Valley goals.
The following day, Valley traveled to Pictou County, where they were blanked 3-0 by Pictou County Weeks. Garrett Holmes had a pair of goals for Pictou County, which led 2-0 after 40 minutes following a scoreless first period.
The Wildcats returned to home ice in Kentville Tuesday and came up on the short end of a 3-2 decision to the Canadian Tire Mustangs. Former Wildcat Logan Phillips’ goal at 12:05 of the third period broke a 2-2 tie and gave the Mustangs the win.
Valley fell behind 1-0 after one period and trailed 2-0 after 40 minutes before mounting a third-period comeback. Colby Harris scored short-handed at 10:21 to make it 2-1 and Steven Wakeham’s power play goal at 11:53 tied the score only to have Phillips break the tie with an even-strength goal 12 seconds later.
The Wildcats are scheduled to host Dartmouth Subways this Saturday evening in Kentville and travel to Cole Harbour Wednesday, Oct. 1 to take on the McCains.
The next home action for the ’Cats is Saturday, Oct. 4 when they will host Pictou County Weeks in an 8 p.m. start.
