Daycares get $5,000 each for energy-efficient upgrades
The MacDonald government has committed $195,000 to structural improvements to child care centres in Annapolis and Kings counties.
Kings North MLA Mark Parent said in a Sept. 22 media release the area’s 39 centres are each eligible for $5,000 in funding for energy efficiency improvements.
“This funding comes at a time when everyone is doing what they can to reduce energy consumption,” Parent said. “The government wants to make sure that our child care centres can make these upgrades and not have to pass on the costs to working parents.”
The funding can be used to enhance and replace energy-related equipment such as insulation, Energy Star appliances, water heaters and windows.
Across Nova Scotia, $2 million has been made available for child care centres to make these improvements.
“As Minister of Environment, it pleases me to see our government’s environmental goals coming together with our commitment to affordable and accessible child care, “Parent added.
