Safety top priority in Terry Fox Run

Students at Weymouth Consolidated School ran a different path as they participated in their annual Terry Fox Run on Friday afternoon.
In previous years, classes walked around the Gully or the school, but organizers Mary Thomas and Lori Dunn decided that students should be more visible to the community that generously sponsors them.
Grades Primary to 3 walked Weymouth's Story Trail and learned local history along the way. Grades 4 to 6 made the loop around Back Street to Sissiboo Street and Hwy. 1 back to the school.
The students were assisted in the walk as well as crossing the main highway by the RCMP’s liaison officer Const. Jessie Patterson.
“Safety is top priority for our students,” said principal Larry Kelly. “Having Const. Patterson direct traffic insured safe highway crossing along the walk.”
This year's walk raised over $3,000 for cancer research with grade 2 student Megan Hill collecting over $300 in pledges.
