The Run for the Cure is set to take place Oct. 5 at Acadia University.

“This is the sixth year of the Run for the Cure here in the Wolfville area and we see participants come in from all over the province,” says run director Allison Fuisz.

The five-kilometre race occurs across the country to help support Breast Cancer Research on the same Sunday and each year participation seems to be growing.

“We raised over $62,000 last year and had just over 400 participants,” says Fuisz. “We are, of course, looking to increase these numbers as much as we can.”

Fuisz said one reason why it was important to her to help organize the run is because her Grade 1 teacher has been battling breast cancer for many years.

“It’s important for me to get awareness out there and carry on for another friend whose mother passed away four years ago,” she said.

In 2006, the Acadia student noted, the Wolfville run raised approximately $35,000, so numbers are growing.
