Annapolis Royal will have a new mayor, come Ovtober 18.
Incumbent Jane DeWolfe, who assumed office this past April after John Kinsella stepped down due to health concerns, has decided not to run for re-election to the post.
Two nominees have offered for the seat: Blaine Schumacher and Philip Roberts.
Roberts is well known to local electors. He currently sits as deputy mayor, served previously as mayor (1997-2000) and ran for Parliament in 2000 for the NDP.
Schumacher, a lawyer with an office in Middleton, is new to Annapolis Royal politics.
For town council, there will be no election this year. A full slate of five councilors will take office by acclamation. DeWolfe will return to her prior role of councilor, as will Sherman Hudson and Doug Shaffner.
With Roberts offering for Mayor, and Ron Boulding not re-offering, two slots were open for new councilors Kathie Fearon and Pat Power. Fearon currently sits on the town’s Planning and Heritage Advisory Committee.
