Failed breathalyzer test

Halifax resident Christopher Blaise Poirier, 23, pleaded guilty Sept. 8 to driving while his blood/ alcohol readings exceeded the 80 mg/100 ml limit.

Judge Alan Tufts fined Poirier $700 plus a $105 victim surcharge, or 12 days in custody on willful default. He also imposed a Canada-wide, one-year driving ban, which will at least be matched in the province by the Registry of Motor Vehicles.

Poirier committed the offense in Greenwich May 31 when police found he had blood/alcohol readings of 120 and 110 mg/120 ml.

Convicted automatically

Judge MacDonald convicted automatically New Minas resident Kevin Patrick Davison, 35, of not wearing an available seatbelt, contrary to the Nova Scotia Motor Vehicles Act (MVA) and fined him $50 plus a $7.50 victim surcharge and $107 in costs.

Fined for breathalyzer readings

Melanson resident Todd Anthony Loomer, 48, pleaded guilty Sept. 9 to driving while his blood/alcohol readings exceeded the legal limit.

Judge Tufts fined Loomer $1,100 plus a $165 victim surcharge, or 19 days in custody on willful default, and prohibited him from driving in Canada for a year.

The Nova Scotia Registry of Motor Vehicles will ban Loomer from driving in the province for at least a year.

Loomer committed the offense in Melanson July 5 when police found he had blood/alcohol readings of 150 and 140 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.

In other court matters

Judge MacDonald found Coldbrook resident Naomi Grace Kinsman, 27, guilty Sept. 3 of failing to display a valid number plate, contrary to the Nova Scotia Motor Vehicles Act (MVA).

The judge fined Kinsman $50 plus a $7.50 victim surcharge and $107 costs. Kinsman committed the offense in Kentville Feb. 23.
